WWE News: Roman Reigns on handling Brock Lesnar in a shoot fight; relationship with Lesnar
What’s the story?
On a recent edition of Cheap Heat with Peter Rosenberg, Roman Reigns opened up on a myriad of topics.
Most prominently, Reigns revealed how he’d handle himself in a shoot fight with Brock Lesnar. Besides, Reigns also weighed in on his real-life relationship with Lesnar.
In case you didn’t know…
Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar have been engaged in a feud over the latter’s WWE Universal Championship over the past few weeks.
It was on last week’s edition of RAW, that Reigns was ‘suspended’ by the WWE after the 'Big Dog' cut a couple of shoot promos on consecutive RAW episodes, calling out Lesnar for disrespecting the WWE Universe and the pro-wrestling industry.
The heart of the matter
Addressing his shoot promos against Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns explained that he’s simply trying to bring a few aspects of Lesnar’s character and work ethic to the forefront, which in turn is being perceived negatively by certain fans. Reigns added that, for the most part, Lesnar seems simply like a big, jacked up brother who comes in and throws people on their necks.
Additionally, Reigns touched upon his personal relationship with Lesnar; elucidating that they’ve had to interact over the past few years, especially given the fact that they headlined WrestleMania 31, and worked several Triple Threat and Fatal 4-Way matches together. However, Reigns added that although he finds Lesnar to be a cool dude, he doesn’t know him very well and they are not friends.
Furthermore, Reigns cited his background as a football player at Georgia Tech, and explained how his athletic background would help him deal with Lesnar, in case the latter decides to shoot on him much like Lesnar legitimately punched Braun Strowman at the 2018 Royal Rumble—
“If he throws two at me I'm throwing three back—my dad was a big man—one of the easiest things about wrestling Brock Lesnar is that there isn't much thinking about it. It's just all physical stuff, and I've been doing physical stuff since I was seven years old…What we do is a different form of entertainment and athleticism, but you still have to be an athlete in order to do what we do all year round, you have to keep yourself in that shape so, I'm never scared to be able to push that button, let's go, if I have to protect myself, I'm more than capable, no doubt."
What’s next?
WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar is set to defend his title against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34 which takes place at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 8th.
Author’s take
Well, given that 'The Beast’s' list of shoot fight victims, MMA to be specific, including legendary fighters such as Randy Couture, Frank Mir, and Shane Carwin, it’s safe to say that engaging in a shoot fight with Brock Lesnar isn’t the smartest move.
That said, Roman Reigns is an incredible athlete in his own right. WrestleMania 34 is set to witness the collision of these two incredible athletes, with only one man emerging with the prestigious Universal title in the end.
