WWE News: Roman Reigns on fans supporting leukemia battle despite hating his character
What's the story?
WWE Superstar Roman Reigns recently talked with People to promote his match against Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 35 this Sunday.
Reigns said that he was blown away by the support of the WWE Universe, looking at how they hated his character and booed him out of arenas on a weekly basis.
In case you didn't know. . .
Roman Reigns relinquished his Universal Title last year, announcing that he was taking time off to battle leukemia. Last month on Monday Night Raw, Reigns came back to a chorus of cheers. He addressed the fans and informed them that he was back for good and that he was in remission.
Reigns got into a feud with The Scottish Psychopath Drew McIntyre, and the duo is all set to clash at The Grandest Stage Of Them All.
The heart of the matter
While speaking on his recovery, Reigns talked about how the fan support blew him away.
Roman Reigns has consistently been the most controversial Superstar in recent years, with the WWE Universe not being too thrilled with the way WWE pushes him. He headlined WrestleMania for the first time in 2015, and he has been featured in the headliner match at every WrestleMania since then.
I was blown away. I have kind of been a polarizing character in our storylines and our industry, and our fans are passionate. They are passionate and vocal and will let you know what they are feeling and thinking, so I was nervous because this was something I kept with just me and my family for years.
Reigns added that in today's age of social media, where anyone can spew negativity from the comfort of their home, the fans genuinely began rallying behind him and forgot everything that had happened in the past. The Big Dog added that he is very grateful for the kind of support he has been receiving.
Even in this crazy world of social media and negativity, and opinions and critiques, everybody dropped that. They dropped their opinion whether it was bad, good or indifferent. They were just trying to help out, and the fact that everybody rallied behind me and gave me that support, I'll never be able to say thank you enough. I am super grateful to them.
What's next?
Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre are all set to lock horns inside the squared circle at MetLife Stadium on April 7th.
