WWE News: Roman Reigns Reveals Why He Didn't Convince Dean Ambrose To Stay

What will happen in The Shield's final chapter this Sunday?
What will happen in The Shield's final chapter this Sunday?

What's the story?

Its no secret that The Shield is one of the most dominant factions in WWE history, but what is also no secret is how beloved the group has become over the course of that time. In fact, you would be pretty hard pressed to find a group of guys that have had the kind of lasting impact that The Shield has had during their tenure.

And sure, there are guys like Daniel Bryan, Finn Balor and maybe even AJ Styles that have left their own imprint on the business, but it still feels like The Shield's foot print far exceeds it. That's why this Sunday's network exclusive event, The Shield: The Final Chapter, takes on an extra special meaning.

In case you didn't know...

Dean Ambrose has refused to sign a new contract with WWE and will thus be a free agent after the pay-per-view on Sunday night. What also seems to be in question though is whether Ambrose will be wrestling again for any company or if he is moving on to do something else with his life.

Either way, his absence signals the official end of the iconic trio and the possibility of them getting back together in the future. If nothing else, its a very bitter sweet moment for Shield fans, who are caught between Final Chapter really being the final time The Shield teams up and Dean Ambrose's happiness.

The Heart of the matter

WWE.com posted a video of The Shield brothers backstage after a match in Moline Iowa and Roman Reigns was asked about whether he had tried to convince Ambrose to stay with the company or not. Interestingly enough, Reigns responded by saying that he didn't and that Ambrose's happiness was most important.

"Nah, nah, the jokes are over," Reigns said with a smile. "I want him to be happy and it seems like he's in a good place and is happy. That's the key to life is just be happy. Different material, situations, and objects are going to come and go, but where your heart is and what makes you smile, I think, is the most important thing. Ultimately, that's all we want for each other.

"We started out in this crazy world of taking over this mountain, Reigns told WWE.com backstage after a match, and putting our flags in it, to being able to achieve all those things and now it's back to the simple things. That's just keeping a smile on our faces and making sure we're happy. He'll be fine."

What's next?

The Shield: The Final Chapter will air this Sunday at 9pm on The WWE Network and The Hounds of justice will be facing off against McIntyre, Lashley and Corbin in the main event. Once the dust settles and The Shield nail that last glorious triple power bomb, its really anyone's guess what will happen next.

In the end, Dean Ambrose leaving is not something The WWE Univere wanted to see and its going to hit some of them on a very emotional level. Some fans grew up watching these guys over the last couple years and other people, myself included, got back into pro wrestling around this time, which also makes the group somewhat special.

With that being said, its not known if he will come back to The WWE, sign with AEW, or leave pro wrestling completley to persue another venture. The ball is now in Ambrose's court and he will ultimatley do what makes him happiest.
