WWE News: Roman Reigns says facing The Rock at WrestleMania is a "money match"
What's the story?
Roman Reigns recently sat down for an interview with the UK Mirror (transcript provided by Ringside News) to talk about different topics. One of them was a dream match against The Rock at WrestleMania.
In case you didn't know...
The Rock and Reigns are first cousins and Reigns is a member of the famed Anoa'i family with many ties in professional wrestling. His father Sika and late brother Rosey both wrestled for the WWE, and he is cousins with former WWE wrestlers Rikishi and the late Umaga and Yokozuna. He is also first cousins with The Usos.
The heart of the matter...
Reigns said that he can only see a clash with The Rock at WrestleMania. He mentioned in the interview that he felt the same way with the feud against John Cena, but the time was right to do so at No Mercy.
He mentioned that there is a deep family tie in a WrestleMania match with The Rock. They represent the same family tree, and the stage they would be on would be a great opportunity to represent their culture.
He also admitted that there will be a lot of planning involved with The Rock for the direction they would like to take on the entire program because a lot of people that they represent would be watching.
He further expanded on the thoughts of this match in the quote below:
"But at the end of the day, I know it’s a money match. And I’m the guy who is still in the ring, so if someone who isn’t in the ring every single night wants to come back in the ring, we now call it my yard, so he is going to have to come to me and then we’ll go from there.
It won’t go down anywhere other than a WWE ring, that’s all I’m saying. If he wants to get it, then I’m not stepping back for anybody."
What's next?
WWE Tables Ladders & Chairs is the next pay per view for "The Big Dog" and it will take place on the WWE Network October 22nd. Reigns will be in the main event as part of the much-anticipated reunion of The Shield who will take on The Miz, Cesaro, Sheamus, and Braun Strowman in a TLC Match.
As for The Rock, his next Hollywood film releases on December 20th of this year with a reboot of the Robin Williams' movie Jumanji. The movie also stars Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black.
Author's take...
I would rather see Roman Reigns vs. The Rock at WrestleMania 34 than the current rumour of Reigns taking on Brock Lesnar.
The build-up surrounding the match would be something special, and if it doesn't happen next year, hopefully sometime down the road it will be planned soon as I don't think that The Rock has wrestled his last match in the WWE.
