WWE News: Roman Reigns says part-timers are an obstacle to full-timers reaching their potential
What's the story?
Part-time wrestlers hogging the spotlight at the biggest shows has been an issue since quite some time now, for many in the wrestling community. When asked about the same, Roman Reigns didn't shy away from stating his opinion on the matter.
In an interview with the New York Post, Reigns stated that part-time wrestlers are in the way of the complete potential of full-time wrestlers.
In case you didn't know...
The criticism for Brock Lesnar's reign as Universal Champion has primarily stemmed from his part-time status and his limited appearances and matches on WWE programming.
Reigns has focused on Lesnar's part-time status throughout their feud and has voiced his opinion to everyone from Paul Heyman and Kurt Angle to Vince McMahon himself.
The heart of the matter
Lesnar is expected to leave WWE to resume his MMA career after WrestleMania 34, and the topic came up during Reigns' interview.
When asked about the part-timers, Reigns said that full-time wrestlers aren't allowed to reach the heights that they have the potential to do so.
"Brock's not the only part-time guy, but there are a lot of full-time guys that are never gonna, as a collective, reach our potentials if we are dominated in this portion of the year by part-time guys."
Reiegns stressed that business is better with a Champion who's around for all the shows. His numbers after beating Triple H were proof, Reigns said.
"Whenever you have a champion who is on every single live event, every single house show, every single appearance that's scheduled, it changes numbers. It's true. I've seen it before. The tour we had after I beat Triple H in Dallas, the numbers didn't lie and it's not going to be any different."
However, looking back at his WWE Championship reign from 2016, there was no data available from the U.S. that showed any change in viewership or house show attendance for Reigns' time with the belt, that was superior to the Championship reigns of Daniel Bryan and Seth Rollins.
What's next?
Reigns faces Lesnar this Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisianna to battle for the Universal Championship.
Author's take
Reigns intends to be a champion who appears on every show and will have the chance to do so, if he is able to defeat Lesnar at WrestleMania 34.
