What’s the story?

WWE’s newest recruit Ronda Rousey was recently in conversation with The Mirror and during the interview, the former UFC superstar claimed that following her arrival in the WWE she did not expect a positive reaction from the fans who represent the WWE Universe.

In case you didn’t know…

Mixed Martial Arts veteran and former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey made her much-awaited WWE debut back in January during the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, where she was involved in an altercation with Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss, SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair, and the winner of the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble match, Asuka.

The heart of the matter

During her conversation with The Mirror, “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey claimed that she wasn’t initially expecting a positive reaction from the WWE fans, following her unexpected debut at this year’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Additionally, Rousey noted that over the course of the past 10 years she has already been booed in 30 different countries during her days as a judoka.

"I wasn't expecting that to be honest. In judo, I've been booed in 30 different countries over 10 years. I never heard anyone cheer for me once, ever. I didn't know what it sounded like until MMA and even then, I would get booed and cheered, I would never get an overwhelmingly positive response. And I loved that, it was always the crowd competing with each other.”

The former UFC Bantamweight Champion also said that she initially expected to receive the worst possible reaction from the WWE Universe, upon her debut at the 2017 Royal Rumble pay-per-view, but things turned out to be the exact opposite for Rousey as she got a pleasant reception from the WWE Universe.

"All that emotion on my face was actually real, I was expecting to get booed out of the arena. And I still am a lot of times when I walk out there, ha ha. You know? Because if my relationship with the public in general was a relationship with an actual person, it would be the most dysfunctional relationship of my life and I probably would have took that person out of my life a long time ago.

What’s next?

Ronda Rousey will make her WWE in-ring debut at WrestleMania 34 when she steps into the ring to compete in a mixed tag match against the duo of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, with Raw GM Kurt Angle in her corner.

Author’s Take

You can certainly tell by now that “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey is indeed one of the most over and popular WWE superstars in today’s current roster and the former UFC Bantamweight Champion has already proved herself to be a huge hit among the WWE Universe.
