WWE News: Ronda Rousey confirmed for MSG debut
What's the story?
Well, she'll be appearing on the next three episodes of Raw and participating in her first WWE match at WrestleMania 34, but two more Ronda Rousey WWE appearances have been confirmed today.
The former UFC star will make her very first Madison Square Garden appearance when WWE returns to the famous venue in July, as well as appearing at WrestleMania 35!
In case you didn't know...
Ronda Rousey is reportedly signed to a full-time, multi-year deal with WWE, and it looks like she'll be on the road with WWE quite a lot over the next year and change.
After Rousey's match was set for WrestleMania, WWE promised fans that the former UFC star would be appearing every week on the road to WrestleMania, but those plans changed quickly when Rousey was pulled from all but one. That has now been remedied though, and the appearances are now stacking up!
The heart of the matter
Tonight, WWE ran a special event at Madison Square Garden and, while Ronda Rousey was not at the event, WWE announced that they will return to the venue on July 7th, with Ronda Rousey making her WWE debut in the venue.
Rousey did, however, appear at the WrestleMania 35 press conference today where Triple H confirmed she will be appearing at the event in the MetLife stadium.
The Madison Square Garden appearance is a special one, though, as Rousey had previously campaigned for UFC to be sanctioned in New York, and even spoke of wanting to fight there in 2016 in an interview with Fox Sports.
I would love to have the opportunity to fight here because this is another time I feel like I earned the right to fight here because I fought for it. I want a tie to a historical place like this and I want to be remembered in a positive way.
Sadly, Rousey never got the chance in UFC but will be appearing this summer at MSG, proving that everything eventually comes full circle.
I’m from Los Angeles, where if something is 50 years old, they tear it down and build a new one. It’s not for my own vanity. It’s for a place in history. I don’t have a single picture of myself fighting in my house. I don’t have my belts, they’re hidden. I don’t like putting stuff out there, but I like fighting for a place in history.
What's next?
Ronda Rousey will team up with fellow Olympian Kurt Angle, to face off against Stephanie McMahon and Triple H on April 8th at Wrestlemania 34 in New Orleans.
WWE returns to Madison Square Garden, with Rousey, on July 7th.
Author's take
This is a huge deal, and it's pretty awesome that Ronda Rousey will finally get to compete in Madison Square Garden. MSG is always special for WWE and the July show will definitely be no exception!
