WWE News Roundup: 43-year-old star is unhappy with Triple H after massive controversy, Clash at the Castle results, Randy Orton to turn heel?
Welcome to the WWE News Roundup for June 16, 2024. We'll look at topics about Triple H and Randy Orton in today's edition.
Plus, a big update on AJ Styles after Clash at the Castle, Chad Gable's status, and more. So, without further ado, let's get started:
#1 WWE Clash at the Castle 2024 match results
Clash at the Castle happened in Scotland this year, with Drew McIntyre facing World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest in the main event.
Cody Rhodes, Bayley, and other top superstars also appeared at the event. Interestingly, the Women's Tag Team Championship was the only title to change hands on Saturday, as Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn surprisingly won gold in their home country.
You can check out the match results for Clash at the Castle below:
- 'I Quit' match for the Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) defeated AJ Styles
- WWE Women's Tag Team Championship match: Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn defeated Jade Cargill & Bianca Belair (c) and Zoey Stark & Shayna Baszler
- Intercontinental Championship match: Sami Zayn (c) defeated Chad Gable
- WWE Women's Championship match: Bayley (c) defeated Piper Niven

#2 AJ Styles headed to Japan after WWE Clash at the Castle
A major announcement about World Wrestling Entertainment and Pro Wrestling NOAH was teased recently, and we now know that it is related to AJ Styles. The WWE SmackDown Superstar is returning to Japan for a singles match.
During a NOAH show in Yokohama after Clash at the Castle, Styles announced via video that he would face Naomichi Marufuji. The contest will take place on July 13 at NOAH's Budokan event.
You can see what AJ Styles had to say about it below:
#3 Wade Barrett is angry at CM Punk and Triple H
Due to a controversial appearance from CM Punk, Drew McIntyre came up short against Damian Priest in the World Heavyweight Championship contest at Clash at the Castle.
Interestingly, Wade Barrett did not seem too pleased — in character — with what went down in Scotland. During the post-show live stream on WWE's YouTube channel, the 43-year-old star said:
"We have a guy in CM Punk, who has materially derailed the show, a massive show." Wade Barrett continued, "It was the biggest arena gate of all time, as we just learned. He derailed it. He derailed a World Heavyweight Championship match, the dreams of millions of Scottish people, and, of course, Drew McIntyre. He should've been thrown out of the building. Or, in fact, he should've been thrown out for his own safety first of all." [54:57 - 55:17]
CM Punk appeared at the post-show press conference and also received praise from Triple H. Barrett maintained kayfabe and criticized the Chief Content Officer for his attitude towards Punk:
"To have the leader of this industry, the leader of WWE, a man who I have consistently respected, Triple H, come out and answer these issues with quotes like, 'I'm happy to have Phil Brooks [CM Punk] back. This is the Phil Brooks I want to see. Thrilled and excited to work with him.' And here's the real kicker: 'Thank you, CM Punk, for helping change the culture behind the scenes at WWE.' I cannot respect any of that. That is nonsense. The man is poison." [55:27 - 55:53]
#4 Huge update on Chad Gable
Chad Gable may have lost against Sami Zayn during Clash at the Castle, but he has plenty of time to gain another shot at the Intercontinental Championship.
Gable recently confirmed that he has re-signed with World Wrestling Entertainment. The WWE RAW Superstar spoke about it on Gorilla Position before Clash at the Castle:
"Yes, I have [signed a new contract]. What I'll say regarding Hunter [Triple H] is when he got started with us and took over, I think you saw my trajectory change almost immediately. Even when I was in a tag team with Otis, I started getting singles matches with some of our top guys. To me, a light bulb went off, and it's like, 'things might be different now,' and they have been ever since. He's delivered on pretty much everything he's ever told me." [8:03 - 8:40]
The news of Gable signing a new contract comes after intense speculation about his future in professional wrestling. But it appears that he is happy with his current WWE run.
#5 Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes, anybody?
Randy Orton is Cody Rhodes' ally right now, but that could change at some point given The Viper's history as an effective heel.
During Clash at the Castle, fans noticed something interesting. After Rhodes defeated AJ Styles, The Bloodline assaulted the Undisputed WWE Champion. Orton and Kevin Owens then entered the scene to even the odds.
Orton was also spotted eyeing Rhodes' title at the event, which could foreshadow a potential betrayal:
Orton and Rhodes have teamed up twice since the latter returned to World Wrestling Entertainment in 2022. However, they never went one-on-one during this period.
