WWE News Roundup - Biggest issue with rumored new title, 15-time champion to turn heel at SummerSlam?
We are back with another exciting edition of the WWE News Roundup. Today's list looks at a top champion's surprising take on a potential new title being introduced. Additionally, we came across major predictions for two matches scheduled for SummerSlam 2024.
Here, we look at the biggest stories that have dominated the WWE headlines over the last 24 hours. So, without further ado, let's begin.
#1. Bayley weighs in on rumored introduction of a new women's title in WWE
Recent reports claimed that WWE plans to introduce a women's mid-card title. Reigning WWE Women's Champion Bayley spoke about the potential development during a recent interview with Booker T.
She highlighted a massive issue with a possible new title and argued that while it would be good for the division, the creative team should prioritize building up the Women's Tag Team Championship as it often sees its feuds lose momentum. She was quoted as saying:
"Of course, yeah, I think that is - they're doing that in NXT right now with the NXT Women's North American Title. Yeah, I would love for us to have something like that. I think that would be great but I still - I always say this as proud as I am of the Women's Tag Team Titles, they also don't always get that time. They don't always get those matches. So first, I would love to see those take off, and I would love to see the women's tag division kind of be put on the map and be on these pay-per-views with us."
Bayley will put her WWE Women's Championship on the line against Nia Jax at SummerSlam 2024. The latter won the Queen of the Ring tournament to bag a guaranteed title shot at the upcoming PLE. Notably, this match would also face the threat of a potential twist if Tiffany Stratton decides to cash in her Money in the Bank contract.
#2. Analyst highlights how Seth Rollins could turn heel at WWE SummerSlam
Seth Rollins is set to serve as the special guest referee for the upcoming grudge match between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk at SummerSlam. In the weeks leading up to the match, both superstars were involved in a brutally personal rivalry. The Architect has a history with the superstars, and wrestling analyst Sam Roberts believes this would lead to the 15-time WWE champion turning heel.
"Seth [Rollins] is gonna give the match to Drew [McIntyre]. The Drew-Seth hatred is a wrestling hatred. The Seth-Punk hatred is a real hatred. The problem that Seth Rollins has with Drew McIntyre is that he scr*wed up Seth's title match by cashing in the briefcase. And also, he is trying to take the CM Punk match away from Seth Rollins," said Sam Roberts. [42:30 - 43:07]
Rollins was furious with Punk at Money in the Bank when he intervened in the title match to jeopardize McIntyre's Money in the Bank cash-in. The Architect boldly stated that his call would be final in McIntyre vs. Punk. He could favor the Scottish Warrior at SummerSlam and set up his feud with CM Punk after SummerSlam, where he may be one of the two superstars who could turn heel on the show.
#3. Wrestling veteran predicts huge title change at WWE SummerSlam
World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest is set to put his title on the line against Gunther at SummerSlam. Wrestling veteran Jim Cornette believes the champion will be betrayed by his fellow Judgment Day members, who would cost him his title at SummerSlam. He argued that WWE would book this title change because Gunther needs the championship and said:
"Gunther needs this. He can do something with it, with this title. He also is more over at this point than poor Priest. And I think it would be best-serving everybody. Gunther gets a major win and has a new championship belt and is one of the two top singles guys, Priest is the victim of some malfeasance or malpractice by some member of The Judgment Day doing what they should've known not to do, and that leads him in a different direction, and off we go to the races," Cornette said. The Ring General won the King of the Ring tournament to earn his title shot at SummerSlam. Recently on RAW, he called out Finn Balor, who has shown growing tension with Priest since the latter won the title and dismissed needing any help from the fellow members of The Judgment Day. Cracks within the heel faction have been evident for a long time, and many expect to see the group implode at the upcoming PLE.
