WWE News Roundup: Former champion confirms retirement, Massive superstar to turn heel and face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania? Update on Becky Lynch
Greetings, and welcome to yet another edition of Sportskeeda Wrestling's WWE News Roundup. Today, we will cover some exciting topics related to top names like former WWE Champion Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and Becky Lynch.
'The Man' Becky Lynch chose not to re-sign with the company once her contract expired. She became a free agent soon after her final match on RAW against Liv Morgan. It was speculated that the former Women's World Champion would eventually return to the company after taking a sabbatical. Apart from that, we will also take a look at Cody Rhodes possibly turning heel.
#3. Cody Rhodes to turn heel and face Roman Reigns at WWE WrestleMania?
The rivalry between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes has become a legend in modern-era WWE. The two men have already faced each other twice at WrestleMania, with a win each. Former RAW Talk host Matt Camp believes that their feud is far from over and the two will face each other once again at the Grandest Stage of Them All. However, this time it will be Rhodes who will be the heel.
"I think there's a heel Cody/babyface Roman match that's gonna headline WrestleMania some day because it should," he said on The Wrestling Matt podcast.
Rhodes is currently in a feud with Solo Sikoa and the new Bloodline. It is being speculated that Reigns is set to return at SummerSlam, most likely following the match between Rhodes and Sikoa.
#2. Former Champion Muhammad Hassan confirms retirement
Former OVW Heavyweight Champion Muhammad Hassan, whose real name is Marc Julian Copani, told Chris Van Vliet that he will never compete as a wrestler again. Hassan, who was a major name in WWE in 2004-05 and even feuded with The Undertaker, portrayed a controversial gimmick in the company. He had last competed on the independent circuit in 2018.
"I absolutely cannot step back into the ring. I would shatter into a million pieces, I think, as soon as I took one bump. I threw my back out two weeks ago picking up my nephew, I blew my hamstring racing my daughter on the beach, like it's just amazing as you get older, you just pile up injuries for no good reason,'' said Hassan.
Despite being talented, the controversial nature of his character eventually led to his ouster from the company. He chose to leave the industry and join the education industry while still competing on the independent circuit. However, he is done with wrestling and will not be returning to the ring.
#1. Becky Lynch provides an update
Former Women's World Champion Becky Lynch took to Instagram and shared a picture of herself in a pickleball outfit. She compared herself to Michael Jordan, who had switched to playing baseball after he first retired from basketball in 1993. She stated that while Jordan switched to baseball, she has switched to pickleball.
"Michael Jordan played baseball. The Man plays pickleball," she wrote.
The post has led to speculation that the 37-year-old might be planning a career switch. However, it is most likely a joke, and the belief is still that she will eventually return to WWE once her sabbatical is over. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for 'The Man'.
