WWE News Roundup: Linda McMahon revealed to be responsible for controversial segment, Big E has surprising reaction to The New Day possibly breaking up (27th September, 2024)

It has been a whirlwind of a week in the world of WWE, with fans discussing the six-episode Mr. McMahon documentary on Netflix. However, keeping that aside, the wheel keeps spinning in the world of sports entertainment and it never stops.

This week, we discuss Linda McMahon's involvement in a controversial storyline, Big E's surprising thoughts on The New Day's possible break-up, Triple H's reaction to SummerSlam 2025, a canceled Randy Orton feud that could have been incredible, and Tiffany Stratton talking about whether she would incorporate her real-life relationship onto television.

#5. Linda McMahon's involvement in the controversial Trish Stratus storyline

The Attitude Era is considered one of the golden eras of WWE and wrestling in general. However, it is also often noted that many of the storylines from back then could not fly today.

That is best exemplified by the story where Vince McMahon had an on-screen affair with a young Trish Stratus while his wife, Linda McMahon, was incapacitated. The storyline, which was highly controversial for various reasons, may have been the brainchild of Vince McMahon, but that does not mean his wife was a silent accomplice.

In the Mr. McMahon documentary on Netflix, Trish revealed that not only was Linda McMahon cool about her husband kissing her, but the latter also suggested the controversial segment where Stratus kissed her in the head.

"We were very aware of what we were doing to provide fuel for our storyline and Linda was super cool about it too. She was in on it. You know, we were all in on it. There was a scene where I lean over and I kiss Linda and that came from Linda. She was like, 'Oh, it would irk so many people if you would lean over and kiss me in the head,'" Trish Stratus said.

Linda McMahon has not been involved in the wrestling business for over a decade-and-a-half now and it seems like it is going to stay that way.

#4. Big E's surprising response on The New Day possibly splitting up

One of the key storylines on Monday Night RAW has seen Xavier Woods descending into a state of never-ending frustration and anger. His bitterness has only increased with every setback.

It almost seems inevitable that Xavier Woods could put an end to The New Day, which is the longest-tenured group in WWE history.

In what some might consider a very surprising response, former WWE Champion Big E said that he would understand if Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods felt they needed to part ways, but believes that there is a road to split on good terms.

"Those guys know what they are doing. When I talk to them, I never really feel like I’m someone that needs to give them advice. They know. Sometimes, you just need to be reminded of what you know, and look, Kofi has accomplished incredible things in a singles capacity, and so has Woods. I think there is a route for those guys to amicably go their own way and do singles stuff. I think there is also a route for them to be together as a tag team. There are a lot of options for two incredibly talented guys. As much as they’ve done, I still feel like there is a lot left on the table," Big E said. [H/T Sports Talk Philly]

There is also speculation that the storyline could be leading to Big E's return. The 38-year-old star, who has not wrestled in 30 months now, has stated time and time again that he is not rushing to return, but that there could be a limited window.

Triple H was in the vignette where it was announced that SummerSlam 2026 would be taking place in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for a two-night event. At the time, the location of SummerSlam 2025 was unknown but that was recently revealed to be the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, the venue that hosted WrestleMania 29.

In response to WWE's blockbuster announcement of the first-ever two-night SummerSlam in 2025, Triple H said:

"The Biggest Event of the Summer is about to be bigger than ever before. On August 2 & 3, we’re bringing you two nights of #SummerSlam @MetLifeStadium."

It is going to be interesting to see how things change up at WWE SummerSlam and how it could match the aura of WrestleMania.

#2. A member of the legendary Anoa'i family details canceled plans for a Randy Orton feud

Back in 2009, Randy Orton was the leader of a group in WWE known as The Legacy, with the group being remembered as the early launching pads for Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase Jr.

What many people forget is that even the Anoa'i and Snuka family had members in the group, namely Manu and Sim Snuka.

Afa Anoa'i Jr., fka Manu in WWE, said that he and Sim Snuka were set to go to FCW to get a repackaging so that they could come back and have a big feud with Randy Orton and the rest of The Legacy:

"We were supposed to go back down to FCW for a stint. Tag team it up a little bit. None of that ever happened. That was the talk. You always hear rumors and whispers and stuff like that but those were actual talks. We were supposed to go down and get packaged up as a babyface team. Just never happened." [From 31:18 onwards]

Interestingly enough, Sim Snuka also played the role of the cameraman who The Undertaker dived into at WrestleMania 25 in his all-time classic match against Shawn Michaels. Unfortunately, Snuka botched that spot and The Undertaker nearly got injured. His role was to catch and protect The Phenom.

#1. Tiffany Stratton admits she is open to putting her relationship with Ludwig Kaiser on WWE TV

Miss Money in the Bank Tiffany Stratton has been in a real-life relationship with RAW Superstar Ludwig Kaiser for a while now. It is not uncommon for WWE Superstars to bring their relationships on TV.

In an interview with Gorilla Position, Stratton admitted that if the story was right, she would be fine with her relationship being featured on TV. However, The Buff Barbie admitted that they did not have that conversation just yet.

"Yeah (I’d bring my relationship with Ludwig Kaiser on-screen). If the story was right, I think I would definitely look into that or think of doing that… I don’t know (if he would say the same). Honestly, I don’t know. I think if the story was right, I think so but, I’m not sure. We haven’t really talked about that," Tiffany Stratton said. [H/T POST Wrestling]

The main factor here is that it would only make sense to do it if it enhanced a storyline and either superstar, if not both. Otherwise, making it a storyline for the sake of it does not sound sensible. It is not going to happen anytime soon anyway as both Stratton and Kaiser are on separate brands.
