WWE News & Rumor Roundup: Major plans for Seth Rollins canceled, New name for current champions, Roman Reigns on WrestleMania 40 role
Welcome to Sportskeeda Wrestling's WWE News and Rumor Roundup edition for December 9, 2024. In today's piece, we will cover topics revolving around Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, among others.
We will also check out the preview of this week's RAW in addition to covering major news about current champions. So without any further ado, let's begin:
#1 WWE RAW preview
The RAW roster will head over to Wichita, Kansas, for another edition of the Monday night show. So far, three matches have been announced for the program.
Rhea Ripley and Raquel Rodriguez will get a chance to settle their differences inside the squared circle as they will face off in a singles match. Meanwhile, Zelina Vega, Lyra Valkyria, and Ivy Nile will lock horns in a Triple Threat match in the ongoing Women's Intercontinental Championship Tournament.
We will see The Wyatt Sicks in action as the sinister faction faces The Final Testament and The Miz in an eight-man tag team match. Also, one can expect The New Day's heel turn to be cemented further after they ousted Big E from the group last week. Drew McIntyre made his return last Monday and he could once again make his presence on the red brand.
#2 WWE forced to cancel major plans for Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins was recently involved in a heated feud with Bronson Reed. However, the Australian star suffered an injury during the WarGames match and is expected to be out of action for the foreseeable future. This has also forced WWE to cancel plans as The Visionary was slated to face Reed in Steel Cage matches on the live circuit during the holiday season.
It remains to be seen who will fill in for Bronson Reed, who injured his ankle while attempting a Tsunami from the top of the cage.
#3 Tommaso Ciampa has a new name for DIY
DIY stunned the wrestling world on SmackDown as they defeated Motor City Machine Guns to win the WWE Tag Team Championship. Johnny Gargano turned heel during the match, which caught MCMG off-guard.
Following their title win, Ciampa came up with new names for the duo:
"The boy's a genius, the boy is a genius! I'm The Madman, he's The Mastermind... DIY. Best damn tag team alive," Tommaso Ciampa said.
#4 Roman Reigns comments on WrestleMania 40 role with The Rock
Roman Reigns looked set to face The Rock at WrestleMania 40 before WWE was forced to change plans due to fan pressure, with Cody Rhodes replacing The Final Boss. What we witnessed next was a heel turn from the Hollywood star, where he joined forces with the OTC to take on Seth Rollins and The American Nightmare on Night One of The Showcase of the Immortals.
Reigns shared his thoughts on standing alongside his cousin, noting that he felt fortunate to be a part of such a legendary family.
"It's just this weird. It's just sharing such a crazy, huge main event-level moment with so many eyes on it, the whole world is watching. (...) I wasn't even looking at him like, 'Oh, this is DJ!' It [is] just another family member, and I mean that with the utmost love and respect, and it's really hard to even put in words how that could make a man feel, and just how proud I am of being able to attempt to articulate this. We're very fortunate to be a part of this family."
Many expect the two to finally face off next year at WrestleMania 41. However, multiple reports have suggested that The Rock has not yet been confirmed to participate in the biggest pro wrestling event of the year.
