WWE News & Rumor Roundup: Shocking name to miss WrestleMania, Legend signs new deal, Big update on Goldberg vs. Gunther
We're fresh off an eventful Bad Blood PLE, and WWE is looking to continue the momentum heading into Crown Jewel. With one eye also on WrestleMania, the latest reports reveal a massive superstar is currently not scheduled to be at the mega show.
A popular figure signed a new Legends deal with WWE, continuing a recent trend elsewhere. The latest News & Rumor Roundup ends with additional details on the rumored clash between Gunther and Bill Goldberg.
#1. The Rock could miss WrestleMania 41
Next year's Show of Shows is set to be even bigger as WWE will have a two-night show in Las Vegas.
Bad Blood ended with The Rock returning and putting everybody on notice as the next arc in The Bloodline storyline is underway.
Dwayne Johnson's return could mean many things, and unsurprisingly, speculation hints at his return to the ring. However, a match at WrestleMania isn't currently on the table for the Hollywood star.
Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that, as of this writing, The Rock is not slated to be at WrestleMania due to scheduling issues.
"However, as of right now, Dwayne Johnson is not scheduled for the show. Obviously that could change and he's going to do what he wants all the time," wrote Meltzer.
If he wants, The Rock could make himself available and wrestle in Las Vegas next year, with multiple matches in line to make it on the final card. One of them is a Triple Threat featuring Rock, Roman Reigns, and Cody Rhodes, which has been discussed as a possibility.
#2. Hornswoggle signs WWE Legends deal
During his 10-year run in WWE, Hornswoggle was involved in several memorable moments, famously even winning the Cruiserweight Title before the belt was retired for the first time.
Swoggle was also featured in a controversial storyline with Vince McMahon and, despite leaving the company years ago, continues to be a regular presence on the indies.
Hornswoggle, real name Dylan Postl, recently made a huge announcement during an appearance at ACW Wisconsin.
Due to his lengthy association with ACW, Swoggle felt the fans deserved to be the first to know he'd signed a new Legends contract.
Here's his official statement:
"I want to break this news to you guys because you guys have supported me throughout my entire career whether it is the WWE or returning to this building. You guys have always supported me, so I thought you guys should be the first to know; as of last week, I signed a WWE Legends contract." (crowd erupts in joy) [From 00:06 onwards]
While the promotion has always gotten veterans on Legends' deals, the practice seems even more regular under Triple H's regime.
#3. Update on Goldberg vs. Gunther
Ever since their brief face-off at Bad Blood, fans have been convinced that WWE will eventually book Gunther in a dream clash against Goldberg. However, what happened at Bad Blood was a one-off angle so far.
Dave Meltzer noted that Goldberg vs. Gunther is currently not in the works for any major upcoming PLEs, including Survivor Series and WrestleMania. The powers that be are yet to formulate the WrestleMania card, and the potential showdown against Goldberg could be considered for Gunther.
"The only thing we were told is that Gunther vs. Goldberg right now isn't scheduled for Survivor Series or WrestleMania, but the Mania card doesn't appear to have been made although October is usually around when they start working on it."
Crown Jewel would have been the ideal stage for the matchup, but WWE has different plans. Gunther will challenge Cody Rhodes for the inaugural Crown Jewel Championship, and for now, a match against Goldberg might have to wait.
