WWE News: Rumour killer on Bayley's reported push
Last week, on the Raw after Summerslam, the former NXT Women’s Champion, Bayley, made her long anticipated main roster debut, immediately confronting the newly crowned WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte, who defeated an injured Sasha Banks at Summerslam to become a two-time WWE Women’s Champion.
It was both surprising and not surprising at the same time that Bayley was shot immediately into the top women’s feud of Raw. Surprising because she was just called up, but it also wasn’t surprising given that the top babyface of Raw, Sasha Banks, was injured and would not be appearing for the next month, and they needed someone to fill that spot, and who better than Bayley?
There was a rumor being put out earlier last week that Bayley would instantly be pushed to the top of the card, but it now appears that that may not be the case. Word is that WWE officials are looking for a Sasha Banks vs Charlotte rematch as soon as Sasha returns from injury, which is said to be 33 days from SummerSlam. With her presence gone, it is likely that Bayley will face Charlotte for the WWE Women’s Champion at Clash Of Champions, but is unlikely to win.
This isn’t a bad thing at all. In fact, it could be a blessing in disguise for Bayley. Bayley’s character is a natural underdog type who the fans get behind very easily. Not to mention that Bayley will be the goldmine of the women’s division in not only Raw, but in WWE overall in terms of merchandise, due to her widespread appeal, especially among little girls. Point being, with Bayley, the real money is in the chase.
There is a reason why her victory against Sasha Banks at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn last year was such a great one – because of the long, organic build in Bayley as the underdog character overcoming the odds.
A highly likely scenario is that Bayley loses to Charlotte at Clash Of Champions, and then Sasha returns from injury, and at Hell In A Cell, wins back the WWE Women’s Championship. There were rumors after Battleground that WWE officials are already planning a Sasha Banks vs Bayley match at Wrestlemania 33 next year in Orlando. If that is the case, then it is definitely the right call for Bayley’s push to the top to be held back for quite some time.
