WWE News: Rusev and Lana off TV for a month

These two love each other. And beaches!

United States Champion Rusev tweeted yesterday that he and his gorgeous wife Lana are embarking on a 23 day Honeymoon. The First Couple of the WWE Universe were married July 29th in Bulgaria, and the Brute was quickly put into a feud with the perpetually soaking wet Roman Reigns.

Assumptions were made that this was a way to get the United States Championship in the hands of the Roman Empire. Mick Foley is, apparently, Roman’s best friend because he keeps handing him title shots against any opponent for whatever title he wants that day. Foley needs to work on his fairness policies a little harder.

But with Reigns inexplicably back in the Universal Championship scene, those plans seemed to have been scrapped. Adding fuel to the death of that storyline is Rusev’s boast of being on the LONGEST HONEYMOON EVER with Lana, posting a picture of her relaxing by the Indian Ocean...holy hell, that beach is beautiful...on Twitter.

Post-wedding vacationing in the Republic Of Seychelles off the coast of Africa, The Bulgaraian Brute and the Ravishing Russian will be spending at least part of their time away from the WWE Universe on beaches, probably, by looks of their trend of almost always being photographed on beaches or sporting events.

What does this mean for Rusev and Lana? I’m worried that time off of television may hurt them in the long run. The timing is not great. He was in the middle of a feud that involved, at the time, the top belt on Raw.

When Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan drafted WWE Champion Dean Ambrose to Smackdown, Rusev was immediately the top canine on the red brand roster. Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon eventually created The Universal Championship in the absence of Dean’s championship belt and in just a couple weeks Rusev went from the guy with the most important belt and main event status to straight up gone.

Look, I get that he loves Lana and they should go to these exotic locations while they’re young but 23 days seems like a lot. That would keep him off-air until after Raw’s first stand alone Pay Per View. Smackdown is already missing American Alpha and John Cena at Backlash this Sunday, and now it looks like the United Stated belt won’t even be defended until October.

Look, as long as this gets us closer to Rusev’s 7 Year Reign as our US Champ, I guess I’m all for it. Keep our Putin-approved beast-man safe, Seychelles!
