What's the story?

In a backstage interview after his victory on SmackDown Live, WWE Superstar Rusev spoke about his victory over Jinder Mahal and getting back his US Title at WrestleMania.

The Bulgarian Brute then added that maybe it was time to 'dust off the old tank' again.

In case you didn’t know…

After making his debut on the main roster, Rusev quickly rose through the ranks and soon became the US Champion. The 'Lion of Bulgaria' was undefeated on the main roster, when he ended up losing the US Title to John Cena at WM 31, after a 146-day reign.

Rusev had probably the grandest entrance at WrestleMania 31 when he entered the arena in an Army Tank waving the Russian flag. The elaborate entrance truly showed the management's investment in Rusev.

The heart of the matter

After three years, Rusev is once again involved in the US Championship picture. Last week on SmackDown Live, Rusev pinned current US Champion Randy Orton in a tag team bout and was thus included in the Championship match at WrestleMania 34, making it a fatal-4-way match-up.

On the latest episode of SmackDown Live, Rusev picked up momentum on his way to New Orleans, after picking his singles victory against "The Modern day Maharaja", Jinder Mahal. Post the match, however, the US Champion ran to the ring and hit The Bulgarian Brute with his signature 'RKO outta nowhere'.

After the match, in a backstage segment, Rusev vowed to take back his US Championship after three years and teased the return of the old tank he used for his WM 31 entrance.

What's next?

Randy Orton will now defend his US Title in a fatal-4-way match at WrestleMania 34 against Rusev, Jinder Mahal and Bobby Roode.

Author's take

Seeing how over Rusev is with the fans, it seems that the best option is to put the title on him at WrestleMania 34.

In the words of Aiden English, I hope that on Sunday it's not just Rusev Day, its RusevMania!
