WWE News: Ryback says Vince McMahon thought he was fat and didn't understand his entrance
What's the story?
WrestlingInc.com recently reported on a recent appearance by former WWE Superstar Ryback on Colt Cabana's Art Of Wrestling Podcast. Within the episode, they discussed Ryback's working relationship with Vince McMahon, who had issues with Ryback's physique and entrance.
In case you didn't know...
Ryback first entered the main roster of the WWE as Skip Sheffield when the Nexus took over the WWE in 2010; however, two months later, he broke his ankle and was out for a lengthy period.
He would be repackaged as Ryback and return to the WWE in April 2012, receiving a sizable push. Even though he entered the main event scene quickly, he only held one title in the WWE, the Intercontinental Championship in 2015.
The heart of the matter
Apparently, Ryback was forced to wrestle in a singlet because Vince McMahon thought he was fat. He said:
"It's funny because [Vince] was the one that put me in a singlet because he thought I was fat at one point. I have never been fat at any point in my career but this was a real thing. Word had gotten back to me that I needed to lose 30 lbs, and this was right before I debuted as Ryback."
When it came to Ryback's entrance, Vince didn't understand what he was doing. When Billy Kidman was an agent with the company, he told Ryback that Vince is on the headset and wants him to explain his entrance. Vince didn't understand what Ryback was doing with his arms, and he explained:
"I said to him that I am collecting all of the energy in the arena, feeding off the energy off the crowd. I am collecting the left side, collecting the right side and then I am collecting everything and then eject it into my quads because I go I know Vince will understand that."
What's next?
Ryback continues to wrestle sporadically on the independent circuit, and it doesn't look like he'll return to WWE in the near future.
Author's take
You can easily tell there was a disconnect between Vince and Ryback. They both have very strong egos, too, and that clash of egos is probably the reason why Ryback was in limbo for so long after an initial strong push.
