WWE News: Sami Zayn tweets after his first heel promo in WWE
What's the story?
In the middle of SmackDown Live this week, Kevin Owens brought out his best friend Sami Zayn to speak about his actions at Hell In A Cell. After the show went off the air, Zayn took to Twitter with a very simple, but effective, tweet:
In case you didn't know...
Last weekend at the Hell In A Cell pay per view, both Shane McMahon and Kevin Owens were climbing back down the cell when Shane knocked Owens off the cell, causing the latter to fall on the announce table.
Instead of going for the pin, Shane went for the kill and climbed back up the cell for a spot similar to what he did against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32. At WrestleMania, Taker moved from the table on his own, but at Hell In A Cell, Sami Zayn surprisingly helped Owens in avoiding the high-risk move from Shane by pulling him off the table.
The heart of the matter...
During Zayn's promo on SmackDown Live last night, he mentioned that Shane McMahon promised opportunity on a show dubbed "the land of opportunity." In the six months since he was on the blue brand, he never got any of this opportunity.
The final straw was when Shane ignored Sami's warnings of what Owens is capable of inside Hell In A Cell. From there, he decided to take matters into his own hands by saving Owens from Shane's elbow drop from the top of the cage.
Sami said in his tweet, "When life is hard, you have to change." He wasn't getting anywhere as a guy who always does things the right way, so for the first time in his 15-year career, he turned into a heel.
What's next?
There are rumours that AJ Styles will team up with his former rival Shane McMahon to fight Owens and Zayn at Survivor Series. Next week on SmackDown Live is expected to provide more clarity about what's in store for the best friends, especially considering AJ is out of the United States title picture after a clean loss to Baron Corbin last night.
Author's take
It was a great promo by Zayn that completely made sense. When he moved to SmackDown Live, I thought he would instantly be in some sort of title feud as he's proven that he can handle the main event scene as a former champion in NXT. Instead, I think he was in limbo worse on SmackDown Live than he was on Monday Night Raw.
I am very excited for the pairing of Owens and Zayn going forward. Part of me thinks this is a situation similar to Randy Orton joining the Wyatt Family and Zayn is getting close to Owens to eventually screw him for a shot at the WWE Championship if Owens ever were to obtain it.
