WWE News: Samoa Joe announces entry into Royal Rumble, calls out John Cena
Samoa Joe announced on WWE Monday Night Raw that he would be entering the Royal Rumble match in three weeks.
Joe was interviewed after defeating Rhyno and discussed his loss against Roman Reigns in their Intercontinental Championship match last week. Joe said that he beat Reigns in every other encounter they’ve had until now and would face Reigns again, but after he handled more pressing matters before announcing his entry into the Royal Rumble match.
Charley Caruso asked Joe how he felt about his chances against superstars like Finn Bálor, Randy Orton, Matt Hardy, and John Cena, but the Samoan Submission Machine focused on Cena saying “He will be the first superstar I eliminate.”
Cena and Joe’s history date back to their days training in California-based fed, Ultimate Pro Wrestling. Their careers would divulge from that point as Cena went on to become one of the biggest superstars in WWE History while Joe would go on to become one of the biggest superstars in ROH and TNA history.
Joe signed with WWE in 2015 and has had very limited interactions with Cena since debuting on the main roster in 2017. Cena and Joe’s interactions in WWE have only been through tag team matches on Raw, the Traditional 5-on-5 elimination match from the 2017 Survivor Series pay-per-view, and a house show in Carbondale, IL.
Joe didn’t enter the 2017 Royal Rumble, but the former NXT and TNA Champion will finally have the chance to compete in the match.
