What's the story?

During a recent interview with Newsweek, WWE Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins opened up about his fellow Shield brethren Roman Reigns possibly winning the WWE Universal Championship later this weekend and the possibility of a Champion vs Champion match between Rollins and Reigns in the near future.

In case you didn’t know…

At WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans, ‘The Architect’ Seth Rollins finally became a Grand Slam Champion when he captured the WWE Intercontinental Championship for the very first time in his illustrious career, after defeating both The Miz and Finn Balor in a mega triple threat match.

Meanwhile, Rollins’ history with Roman Reigns also dates way back to their initial Shield days back in 2012 when the two men captured the WWE Tag Team Championships as part of the group, along with Dean Ambrose who was then-United States Champion.

The heart of the matter

While speaking with Newsweek, Seth Rollins spoke about a host of topics including Roman Reigns’ chances of potentially winning the WWE Universal Championship later this weekend in Saudi Arabia. Below are the highlights from the interview:

On Roman Reigns possibly winning the Universal Title from Brock Lesnar at GRR:

According to Seth Rollins, he believes that Roman Reigns is certainly capable of bringing down Brock Lesnar and bringing the WWE Universal Championship to Monday Night Raw and Reigns winning the Universal Title will definitely be a huge coup for the WWE’s Television show (referring to Monday Night Raw), the live events, and for everything else as well.

“I'm team Roman 100 percent. I'm not worried about my position or the Intercontinental championship. I know what I bring to the table and what the Intercontinental title brings to the table. I think having Roman with the Universal title on RAW every week will only add to the show and the prestige we do every week."

If it’ll still be Roman Reigns’ yard?

Seth Rollins isn’t certainly too concerned with the WWE being Roman Reigns’ yard, because ‘The Kingslayer’ feels that it is his show after all and the WWE Universe doesn’t refer to him as ‘Monday Night Rollins’ for nothing.

"It's his yard all he wants. But I feel the show is mine, they don't call it Monday Night Rollins for nothing. I go out there every Monday and put on the best performances. For me, I'm the guy they should build the show around so [Roman] can think whatever he wants."

On potentially getting into a Champion vs Champion storyline with Roman Reigns:

Rollins stated that as of right now, he’d absolutely love to get into the ring with Roman Reigns once again because ‘The Big Dog’ is certainly one of the top competitors in the entire world and sharing the ring with one of The Shield guys at the same time is always a special feeling, claims Rollins.

"I'd absolutely love to get into the ring again with Roman. Without a doubt, he's one of the top competitors in the entire world and being in the ring with him, whenever any of the SHIELD guys are in the ring at the same time, there's a special feeling involved. We've had some very classic matchups in the past and we've gone back and forth before. I think it would be a great time and I'm certainly up for the challenge and I'm certain he would be too."

What’s next?

Seth Rollins will defend his WWE Intercontinental Championship in a ladder match this weekend at The Greatest Royal Rumble event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and on the other hand, Roman Reigns will battle Brock Lesnar in a Steel Cage Match with the Universal Title on the line.
