WWE News: Seth Rollins sets up potential feud with The Rock with comments on ESPN
This past SummerSlam weekend, WWE superstars had been out promoting the upcoming pay-per-view. Seth Rollins too, appeared on ESPN's First Take to promote SummerSlam and the WWE Universal Championship.
Rollins stuck to his character as a heel, by being arrogant on the show. But he also used the platform that ESPN gave him, to hype up his match at SummerSlam, where he would be battling Finn Balor for the brand new WWE Universal Championship.
First Take host, Stephen A. Smith gave Rollins a history lesson in referencing former WWE legends like Macho Man Randy Savage, the Road Warriors, and Dusty Rhodes, and asked Rollins what it felt like to try to fit the shoes of those WWE legends. Rollins replied by saying that he was honored to be in the same breath of those legends but made it very clear that wants to fill his own shoes, instead of filling theirs.
The former WWE Heavyweight Champion, during his appearance, didn’t hold back. He called out Bill Goldberg, saying he’d wrestle him any day because he was past his prime.
But perhaps the most outrageous comments made by Rollins would be when he said that he could take on The Rock and then went on to mock his catch phrase. This was in response to the question if he would fight the Rock. Rollins said, "What The Rock is cooking is sweet garbage."
Rollins said that The Rock came to the WWE when he wanted to collect a paycheck and would not be on the road every week like Rollins. Seth also reminded First Take's Smith of the time when he had put The Rock through a table. However, Rollins would love to appear in a role on The Rock's hit HBO Show, Ballers.
It would be interesting to see as to how “The Brahma Bull” responds to Rollins’ comments. There’s probably one of two things we can expect, either he’ll respond with a funny comment of his own to Tweet to the outspoken Rollins and give his seal of approval to “The Man”, or we could be in line for a feud, should The Rock want to return to the ring.
Given that Seth lost his match against Finn Balor for the Universal Championship, it would be interesting to see if a match against The Rock does transpire at a Royal Rumble or Wrestlemania. But given The Rock’s busy schedule over the past couple of years, it is highly unlikely that this mouth watering clash would indeed materialize.
