WWE News: Several WWE Superstars nominated for MTV awards
What's the story?
Whether the WWE Universe likes it or not, pro wrestling has become a lot more mainstream over the past couple of years and continues to grow larger each day. Beyond that, WWE continues to receive coverage from the media, which only helps the once niche sports entertainment entity reach more and more people.
In case you didn't know...
WWE has become very successful at launching itself into the mainstream consciousness. Not only is that evident by Vince McMahon's outside ventures like XFL, but the white-hot women's revolution that is still ongoing.
With that being said, many in the WWE Universe see their favorite Superstars as larger than life figures and that mindset is starting to seep into the mainstream as well. Interestingly enough, it has once again lead to several top Superstars getting nominated for various awards at MTV TV and movie awards this summer.
The heart of the matter
MTV's annual TV and movie awards are set to take place on June 17th and believe it or not, several WWE Superstars have been nominated for awards this year. In fact, Roman Reigns, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Ronda Rousey will all be in the running at the upcoming awards show.
A recent press release from WWE.com said:
"After his heartwarming return to action this year, The Big Dog has been nominated for Best Real-Life Hero, alongside trailblazers like Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Serena Williams, Hannah Gadsby and Alex Honnold. Highlighting the Best Fight category will be WrestleMania 35 headliners Becky Lynch, Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair for their epic "Winner Take All" Triple Threat Match."
The company also announced that the WWE Universe can vote for their favorite Superstars by going to vote.mtv.com or by direct messaging MTV on their Facebook or Twitter. The award show is scheduled to take place Monday, June 17th at 9 pm on MTV.
What's next?
While the award show won't be for another month or so, The Money in the Bank PPV is set to take place this Sunday exclusively on the WWE network. In the star-studded event, Roman Reigns is set to take on Elias, and Becky Lynch will face off with Charlotte Flair and Lacey Evans in two separate title matches.
As for Rousey, she is currently on hiatus from WWE. The last time she appeared was WrestleMania 35.and it is unknown when we will see her next.
