WWE News: Sheamus receives huge babyface reaction during India tour
There are some current professional wrestlers who do a very good job playing the role of a heel. For a heel to be effective in giving the rub to whomever babyface he or she is feuding with, it is important that they gain enough heat to put their opponent over. One of the biggest issues in current WWE is the blurred lines between a babyface and a heel. When these lines are blurred, not only does it hurt the wrestler who is trying his or her best to get a strong reaction, but it lowers the anticipation for matches at pay per view events, as well as taints the storyline build for a particular angle.
Sometimes, certain crowds just give people reactions that they were not expecting, and they have no other choice but to soak it in. This is what happened to former WWE World Champion Sheamus, who currently is a strong heel, during WWE’s tour to Mumbai, India.

For Sheamus, fans were waiting quite some time for a heel turn during his long stretch as a babyface. One of the major reasons was due to his character becoming stale, and viewers wanting something new from him. After a long time playing a good guy, Sheamus returned a day after WrestleMania 31 on the March 30 episode of Raw, with a drastically different look, attacking Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler. This embarked on a new and fresh heel character for Sheamus.
Over the past year and a half, Sheamus has done well overall as a heel. While moments such as his alliance with the League of Nations unfortunately turned out as a flop, other moments such as his Money in the Bank victory and subsequent WWE World Heavyweight Championship victory at Survivor Series 2015 showed his value as a villain. Sheamus has continued to be a solid heel, and a good midcard hand on Raw.
For the past couple of months, Sheamus has been feuding with Cesaro, which led to a string of nine matches. Seven of these matches were a part of a “Best of Seven” series, and two other matches occurred before the series began. At the end of the series, it was deemed to be a tie, after the final match resulted in a no contest. Since the winner was going to be granted a WWE title match, both were considered the winner and given a Raw Tag Team Title match against The New Day at the upcoming Hell in a Cell pay per view.
While reactions such as the one in Mumbai typically does not impact any ongoing booking decisions, it should be interesting to see if WWE decides to turn him face as a result of teaming with Cesaro.
