WWE News: Shelton Benjamin officially cleared wrestle

Healthy and ready to go!

What’s the story?

Former WWE Superstar Shelton Benjamin took to his Twitter handle and broke the news that he is now medically cleared to wrestle again after a 9-month injury layoff. Here is what the Gold Standard’s tweeted out:

In case you didn’t know...

Benjamin was scheduled to return to SmackDown Live last year after the brand split. Unfortunately, the plans got derailed after he suffered a torn rotator cuff during an indie match. He underwent surgery to fix it and went on a long road to rehabilitation.

As reported earlier, despite the injury throwing a spanner in the works, Vince McMahon and Triple H have been quite high on the prospect of getting the former United States Champion back.

The heart of the matter

With WrestleMania 33 all set to make waves this Sunday, a return on the PPV or on either the RAW or SmackDown episodes after the show will be the perfect booking option. Benjamin mentioned the words ‘effective immediately’ in the tweet, possibly hinting at a return in the next week or so.

What’s next?

The Andre The Giant Battle Royal is one match that could facilitate the return of Benjamin as a surprise entrant. The smarter option would be to save it for the post-WrestleMania episode of SmackDown, as he was originally slated to return to the blue brand.

SmackDown needs a boost and his comeback is exactly what the doctor asked for.

Author’s take

The timing of the clearance cold not have been any better as we’re in the midst of the most happening time in pro wrestling. With the Hardys also all set to make their returns at the showcase of the immortals, Benjamin’s return would be the icing on the cake.

The SmackDown division lacks a credible upper mid-card and the Gold Standard could be the missing link. Imagine The World Greatest Tag Team Tag (if Carlie Hass also returns) vs. The American Alpha? Sounds epic right? Benjamin could join the Alphas to form a really promising faction. The possibilities are endless!

He’s a regular in the WrestleMania OMG moments montages and we can only hope another one scripts itself at WrestleMania 33.
