WWE News: Shelton Benjamin frustrated with his position in WWE

The Gold Standard hasn't exactly had a great run since his WWE return

What's the story?

Shelton Benjamin has rarely been seen on SmackDown Live since Chad Gable was moved to the Raw brand last year. It seems, now, that he has joined the long list of frustrated superstars waiting for their chance.

In case you didn't know...

Shelton Benjamin re-signed with the WWE back in 2017. Originally, he was set to join the company in the summer of 2016, but an injury would keep him away from the ring. Once he joined SmackDown Live, it was assumed that we'd see him pushed right into the United States Championship picture. However, with Chad Gable being left by himself on the Blue Brand, he and Benjamin decided to go for the Tag Team Titles together.

While they had some great matches with the Usos and the New Day, Gable and Benjamin never won the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. After Gable was sent to Raw in the 2018 Superstar Shake-up, Benjamin was left with nothing to do.

We saw him take on the likes of AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura, but the Gold Standard just never picked up the momentum needed to pick up a title of his own.

The heart of the matter

On Twitter today, Shelton Benjamin tweeted out a message saying that he was stuck spinning his wheels in the WWE.

With many superstars reportedly unhappy with their placement in the WWE, one has to wonder if Benjamin could join the rumored exodus in the near future.

What's next?

Shelton Benjamin appeared in the Men's Royal Rumble Match this year, entering at #22. Outside of that, we haven't seen much of him. Hopefully, though, the former Intercontinental and United States Champion will get some time to shine soon enough. After all, a star of his caliber could do great things with a great SmackDown roster.
