What's the story?

Shelton Benjamin isn't having the best time recently; he got separated from his tag-team partner Chad Gable in the Superstar shakeup, lost to WWE United States Champion Jeff Hardy and now has revealed a nasty looking head injury he received at a live show.

In case you didn't know...

When the brand split returned Shelton Benjamin was advertised to also return but had to pull-out due to injury. Thankfully he recovered and was able to debut as Chad Gable's new tag-team partner when Jason Jordan was moved over to Raw, breaking up American Alpha

The heart of the matter

To make things even worse, Benjamin picked up the nasty welt on his head at a house show in Johnson City, Tennessee in a losing effort against Sin Cara of all people. As well as catching a win, it seems that Cara also caught Benjamin's head with a nasty blow as you can see below.

This ain’t ballet. OUCH!!!

Luckily Benjamin appears to be okay as he's on social media posting photos of the huge lump and is making 'ballet' jokes. However, the lump is very close to his eye so it could have been a lot worse.

What's next?

Benjamin looks set to move forward as a singles competitor now that Gable is gone from SmackDown, although he'll have his work cut out as the Superstar shakeup has left SmackDown Live with an incredible array of single's wrestling talent with the likes of AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Daniel Bryan, Samoa Joe and Jeff Hardy.

Author's take

I've always been a fan of Shelton Benjamin, his talent is far greater than the titles he has won and he definitely deserves more success in WWE. However, the fact he's losing to Sin Cara at house shows (and picking up injuries in the process) may tell us everything we need to know about how the WWE views Benjamin going forward.
