WWE News: Smackdown Live Women's Championship match set for Backlash
What’s the story?
As per confirmed by the WWE.com earlier today, current WWE Smackdown Live Women’s Champion Carmella is now scheduled to defend her championship belt against Charlotte Flair in a rematch at next month’s Backlash pay-per-view.
In case you didn’t know…
On the Smackdown Live after WrestleMania 34, we witnessed the official main roster call-up of the duo of Billie Kay and Peyton Royce—The IIconics—from WWE’s developmental brand, NXT.
On their first night on the main roster, the duo of Royce and Kay gatecrashed ‘The Queen’ Charlotte Flair’s WrestleMania 34 victory speech, following her massive win over Asuka at WrestleMania 34.
Shortly afterwards, Charlotte Flair suffered a brutal beatdown at the hands of the former Iconic Duo, as all of it eventually led to Carmella cashing in her Money in the Bank contract on Charlotte Flair and capturing the Smackdown Live Women’s Title in the process as well.
The heart of the matter
WWE’s official website has announced that ‘The Queen’ Charlotte Flair is now slated to get her Smackdown Live Women’s Championship rematch next month at the Raw and Smackdown Live co-branded pay-per-view Backlash.
Flair, whose 147-day title reign came to an abrupt ending two weeks ago, now has the opportunity of making the most out of this rematch as she gets set to square-off against ‘The Princess of Staten Island’ yet again in one-on-one competition.
Also, as noted, both Carmella and Charlotte Flair will officially sign the contract for their rematch on tonight’s edition of Smackdown Live.
What’s next?
The 2018 Backlash pay-per-view will take place on the 6th of May at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Author’s take
Since losing her Smackdown Live Women’s Title to Carmella, Charlotte Flair automatically owes herself a rematch clause and this rematch definitely promises to be a good one.
