WWE News: Speculation on Samoa Joe's main roster call-up and which brand he will join
Justin LaBar and Juice Springsteen of Chair Shot Reality spoke about the past week in wrestling. One of the main discussion concerned Samoa Joe and his inevitable main roster call-up. LaBar mentioned that the main reason for their sudden title change at NXT Takeover: Toronto, was to show that anything could happen at Takeover specials.
He also said that the second title switch in two weeks in the house show in Osaka indicated that Vince McMahon is giving the signal to call Samoa Joe up to the main roster, either in the Royal Rumble or some other capacity.
When asked if Joe would be a bigger prospect for Raw or SmackDown Live, LaBar said that SmackDown Live already has some good quality heels, indicating that a Raw call up is likely for The Samoan Submission Machine.
Springsteen stated that the problem is that if Joe goes to SmackDown there can only be so many stars to fit into a two-hour show, and if he is on Raw, there is the fear of being lost in the shuffle. LaBar responded that it is a “damned if they do, damned if they don’t” type of situation for WWE.
Samoa Joe became the first ever two-time NXT Champion, when he won the title at Toronto from Shinsuke Nakamura. However, he also became the shortest reigning champion in NXT history, when he lost the title back to Shinsuke Nakamura two weeks later at Osaka.
Joe has been part of the NXT roster since May 2015, and many feel that his time has come to finally be called up to the main roster. He has not only been NXT Champion twice but has also main evented the last five consecutive Takeover specials.
