WWE News: Steve Austin comments on Bret Hart and Vince McMahon
What’s the story?
On the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin opened up on Bret Hart burying the hatchet with Vince McMahon and WWE.
Speaking of which, Austin asserted that it’s great to see Hart and McMahon/WWE let bygones be bygones.
In case you didn’t know…
Bret Hart was involved in a real-life dispute with Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels, back in November of 1997 in the old WWF.
Regardless, Hart eventually returned to the WWE; being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and also working in a few angles on the promotion’s television programming.
The heart of the matter
On that note, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin expounded on the entire fiasco; stating—
"I was glad to hear it. There was so much real animosity between (Bret Hart and Vince McMahon) because of everything that happened in WWE with the Screwjob in Montreal (Canada) with Bret and Shawn (Michaels) (and) then, Bret leaving (WWE).”
“There was just a lot of animosity there and Bret really thinks he got screwed. Not so much in the storyline, but in real life…And I think it was like taking a big, 100-pound weight off his back and for them to be able to have closure in that storyline as a WWE angle, and closure to their real deal angle in life, the animosity between them, I think it's a good thing."
Furthermore, Austin also pointed out that he himself has vastly improved his decision-making skills over the years; adding that experience makes one a better and smarter person and alluding that time heals most wounds.
What’s next?
Steve Austin and Bret Hart have long retired from the sport, and currently, pursue careers outside the pro-wrestling bubble.
Meanwhile, Vince McMahon continues to helm the global entity that is the WWE.
Author’s take
The Montreal Screwjob will forever remain one of the most controversial moments in the history of this business.
Regardless, it’s great to hear the story and its aftermath from the perspective of a true industry insider—a man who has done it all himself—‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin. And that’s the bottom-line, ‘coz Stone Cold said so!
