WWE News: Steve Corino signs with the WWE
As reported by ProWrestling.net, Ring of Honor performer/commentator Steve Corino has officially signed a contract with the WWE. Corino will work as a full-time trainer at WWE's Performance Centre. Before joining the WWE in January, Corino will finish his commitments at ROH throughout December. Therefore, he will be present at ROH's Final Battle PPV and the following TV tapings.
As of yet, it is still unknown whether Corino will also be working as a commentator at NXT. Graves still manages to work for NXT, while also working for Monday Night RAW. He'll also be lending his voice to the new cruiserweight focused show, 205 LIVE.
Corino started wrestling in Matt and Jeff hardy's wrestling promotion, Organization of Modern Extreme Grappling Arts. He began using an "anti-Hardcore" gimmick; wherein he would deride hardcore matches and wrestlers.
He carried this gimmick throughout his run in the indies and also during his run in Extreme Championship Wrestling aka ECW. Two years after his debut in ECW, Corino defeated Sandman, Justin Credible, and Jerry Lynn to become the ECW World Heavyweight Champion. After not getting paid on time Corino left the company in 2001.
Following his departure from ECW, Corino worked for five years on the Independent Circuit and had a brief stint in TNA. In 2002, Corino made his debut as a wrestler in Ring of Honor, engaging in a four-year rivalry with Homicide. In 2007, Corino announced his retirement tour and worked in several independent shows.
Corino wrestled a few try-out matches with the WWE but didn't get signed by the company. After being rejected, Corino stated on his MySpace page that he probably seemed too old-school to them.
In 2008, Corino returned to wrestling; working a few shows in the independents before joining ROH again in 2009.
During his stint in ROH, Corino wrestled and got involved in a lot of feuds. He began a program with the team of Colt Cabana and El Generico (Sami Zayn), along with Kevin Steen (Kevin Owens). He later started a feud with Kevin Steen, which ended in Corino's defeat.
After the dissolution of the heel faction S.C.U.M., Corino alongside Kevin Kelly started working as a colour commentator. Corino wrestled for the last time against B.J. Whitmer at ROH's Global Wars PPV, before stopping wrestling altogether.
Previously, Corino had been invited to serve as a guest trainer at WWE’s Performance Centre.
