WWE News: Sting comments on his neck injury
What’s the story?
As reported by NoDQ, professional wrestling legend Sting has revealed a few details regarding the condition of his neck, besides speaking about his dream match against The Undertaker.
In case you didn’t know...
Sting (real name- Steve Borden) is widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, and has performed for WCW, TNA (Impact Wrestling) and most recently for the WWE.
He competed against Triple H at Wrestlemania 31 back in 2015 and later on against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions. The 58-year old ‘Icon’ challenged Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight championship, but ended up on the losing side and suffered a serious neck injury during the bout.
The heart of the matter:
Sting retired from the sport in April of last year and has since revealed the severity of his neck issues in a few interviews, stating that he required surgery in order to rectify his cervical spinal stenosis.
He recently appeared at a wrestling event in Qatar, and in an interview with a fan, revealed a few scary details regarding the medical evaluation of his neck. Here are a few excerpts from Sting’s statements in response to a question regarding his neck-
“I feel normal. But the doctor says my neck is messed up, bad! So (if I take) one more bad fall, and maybe [gestures a baseball swing] done! Neck down nothing (will function) or (I may) die.”
When asked about a potential match between him and the Undertaker, Sting added-
”Oh yeah. (It’s) my dream too.”
On being probed as to when a potential matchup between him and Taker would happen, Sting replied that he doesn’t think it’s going to happen.
What’s next?
Sting is presently signed to a Legends contract with the WWE and although he’d stated in August of last year, in a conversation with JBL that he’d like to face the Undertaker before the both of them retire; chances of a Taker-Sting match seem bleak at the moment.
Author’s take:
Neck injuries are no joke and Sting- as tough as he is- is not immune to the limitations of the human body.
Sportskeeda wishes the legendary ‘Icon’ the best of luck in his recovery and rehabilitation.
