WWE News: Sting still hoping for Undertaker match at WrestleMania?
Sting has been one of the most important faces in WCW history and was dubbed “The franchise of WCW”. He held a total of 15 championships in the company and is one of those few stars that was entirely grown on WCW lines. Throughout the 90s, Sting engaged in intriguing rivalries with Ric Flair, Vader, Rick Rude and the nWo.
After spending most of his career with WCW and TNA, ‘The Stinger’ finally made his WWE debut last year when he competed in a WrestleMania clash with Triple H. It was an exciting matchup that involved run-ins from DX and the nWo. Following that, Sting made a few appearances on RAW before his match with Seth Rollins at Night of Champions for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. As fate would have it, Sting suffered severe injuries to his neck and spine at Night of Champions and was forced to retire from active competition.
What was even worse is that the WWE Universe never got to see the highly anticipated Sting vs. Undertaker match at WrestleMania. Sting announced his retirement at the Hall of Fame speech this year and it broke our hearts.
But there is still a glimmer of hope. Recently on the WWE Network show, Legends With JBL, Sting said that although he had announced his retirement from the squared circle, he was still holding off on neck surgery just in case the match with Taker comes calling. Sting said that he was feeling normal and although he is supposed to have a neck surgery, he has put it off for the time being.
“I am supposed to have surgery, but I'm having so many mixed messages out there. And the one thing I keep hearing is that if you're not having side effects and you're okay, then don't do it.”
‘The Icon’ made it clear that he had been postponing the surgery as going under the knife would mean that he would "probably" not be able to wrestle again. The Hall of Famer said that he was still holding out for a match with the Undertaker. He expressed disappointment saying that his professional wrestling career didn’t have the ending that he had actually hoped for. The master of ‘The Scorpion Deathlock' admitted that he still wanted to go one on one with ‘The Phenom’ at WrestleMania and called it “unfinished business”.
"Yeah, that's the unfinished business. I've always wanted to have that match. I know wrestling fans have always wanted to see it too."
Is this interview an indication of good things to come? Will Sting really come out of retirement for one last match? Will it happen in Orlando at next year’s WrestleMania? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
