WWE News: Sting wanted a dream match against The Undertaker

Sting ne
Sting never faced The Undertaker in his storied wrestling career

What's the story?

Sting was in Dubai to promote the release of the WWE 2K18 game and there, he was interviewed by Al Arabiya. In the interview, he revealed a conversation he had with the Undertaker about a dream match between the two of them.

In case you didn't know...

Sting was the last holdout of WCW and was the personification of the company in more ways than one. He wrestled in the last match of the company, and even though many of his colleagues moved to WWE, he continued to wrestle in TNA and other Independent promotions.

In 2014 Sting settled his differences with Vince McMahon and finally joined WWE. He wrestled at Wrestlemania, but his in-ring career came to a sudden end due to an injury he suffered in a match against Seth Rollins. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016, but somehow it all seemed incomplete as he never faced The Undertaker like everyone had hoped he would.

The heart of the matter

During his interview in Dubai, Sting revealed that he had always wanted to face Undertaker in a match, and actually had a conversation with "The Dead Man" about it. He said that he had told The Undertaker about his desire to face him. He also revealed that "The Phenom held his secrets close to his chest and "never reciprocated, so Sting was unaware if he was actually been interested in the possibility of a match.

"We’ve had a brief conversation, and I just told him, I said, man, I just always wanted to have that match. It wasn’t necessarily reciprocated so I’m not sure where he stands or if he had any interest at all, to be quite honest. But I did. I don’t mind saying."

What's next?

Sting's injury in his match against Seth Rollins means that we will never see The Icon make a return to the ring for a match. He did reveal, however, that he would consider a part-time role in The WWE Performance Centre if he was offered a position there.

The Undertaker apparently retired from the ring after he lost his match against Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania. With the recent return of Kane, things may still be up in the air so far as his retirement is concerned, and there is the possibility of a future in-ring return.

Author's take

The Undertaker was in many ways the representative of WWE the same way Sting represented WCW. During The Monday Night Wars, neither tried to go work for the other company unlike most of the stars they worked with.

A match between the two would have been incredible to behold, even though both the Superstars were pretty old by the time Sting signed for WWE.There is no longer a chance of a match between the two, but it is enticing to think about what could have been.
