WWE News: Stone Cold Steve Austin called out for a WrestleMania 34 showdown

What's the story?

Former Heavyweight Boxing Champion Tyson Fury has laid out the gauntlet for a clash with none other than Stone Cold Steve Austin himself at The Show of Shows.

In an interview with the Gazette, the heavyweight boxer expressed his desire to step into the WWE ring and had an interesting choice of opponent.

In case you didn't know...

Fury is amongst the best heavyweight pugilists in the world, who currently is without a boxing licence due to an ongoing doping case. The British giant is popularly known for his upset victory against the previously unconquerable Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.

His monumental win made him the WBO, IBF, Ring, IBO, WBO and Lineal Heavyweight champion while also taking home fighter and upset of the year honours. It all went downhill from there on as Fury was stripped of the titles in the wake of doping and medical irregularities coming to light.

As for the Texas Rattlesnake, he is enjoying his retirement and has no plans of returning to the squared circle. However, a showdown doesn't necessarily mean a match.

The heart of the matter

Although Fury has not put on his gloves since November 2015, he is pretty confident about having three matches next year. He mentioned that he was focussing on getting back into fighting shape by losing weight and that before he makes his much-anticipated return to boxing in 2019, he would like to make a splash at the grandest stage of them all.

“Hopefully I will be back in April. I’m looking at ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin.”

What's next?

Fury is expected to return to action next year with no word currently on his opponent. All hopes of a Klitschko vs. Fury rematch ended with the Ukrainian great's retirement after his loss to Anthony Joshua earlier this year.

Coming to the man Fury wants to one on one with, Steve Austin is one of those names that you must expect to drop by at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans.

Author's take

While this may just be the comment made in a jestful way, WWE would have no qualms about getting the feared striker on board.

As a wrasslin' fan, all I want is for the Texas Tallesnake to open a can of whoop a** at The Show of Shows in New Orleans.
