WWE News: Stone Cold Steve Austin reveals why his uncensored podcast is no more
What's the story?
Wrestling Inc. is reporting on a recent edition of The Steve Austin Show where Austin spoke with Chris Jericho. During this conversation, Austin reveals the reason why there is no longer an Unleashed show (that typically aired on Thursdays).
In case you didn't know...
Austin made his return to the WWE for the first time since WrestleMania 32 when he kicked off the Raw 25 special. He didn't say a word, but gave Shane McMahon two Stone Cold Stunners and in between one more Stunner for Vince McMahon.
The heart of the matter...
Before Bruce Prichard and before Edge & Christian, Stone Cold Steve Austin created The Steve Austin show in April 2013. Five years later, it is still one of the most popular pro wrestling podcasts.
Austin would have a family-friendly show on Tuesdays where there would be zero f-bombs, but the occasional cuss word. On Thursdays, there would be the Unleashed show where anything flies, including a lot of f-bombs.
Recently the Unleashed show was dropped, but Austin still produces two episodes a week. During this conversation with Jericho, Austin mentioned the main reason for the change was sponsorship. He would expand on that thought with the quote below:
"It just seems to be that it's easier to sell ads and stuff like that when you're dealing with a family friendly format," Austin said. "There will [still] be a few odd cuss words here and there and stuff like that, but the F bombs are kinda gone. That's just kinda what happened and that's about as far as I can explain it. I'm really actually quite fine with that... I don't really have to cuss that much to have a good time."
What's next?
The next edition of the Steve Austin Show comes your way on Tuesday, February 6th. You can listen to the podcast on iTunes or any other podcasting app, or through PodcastOne's website.
Author's take...
I will definitely miss the Unleashed shows, especially the uncensored talks with Steve's good buddy Ted Fowler, but I completely understand the move.
The podcast is still one of the most popular shows nearly five years since the first episode, and if Austin wants to keep growing it, the move was definitely necessary.
