What's the story

NXT Superstar Matt Riddle was approached by TMZ for a quick interview, where he talks about NXT's rise, John Cena, and other topics.

In case you didn't know...

Matt Riddle is a former UFC fighter who made his big debut for the WWE in August 2018 at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV. He made his debut on the Halloween edition of NXT, where he defeated Luis Menzies.

From there, Riddle began a rivalry with Kassius Ohno after Ohno interrupted his interview at NXT TakeOver: Wargames II, last November. This escalated into an impromptu challenge from Ohno to Riddle in a match to open up the show. Riddle accepted and quickly defeated Ohno in just six seconds.

The heart of the matter

TMZ caught up with Matt Riddle for a quick moment to discuss a few key topics. Riddle talks about working with John Cena someday down the road.

"Before, I would say Cesaro because he's so athletic, but after going to Madison Square Garden and having a chat with John Cena, I think wanna fight John Cena," Riddle said. "I mean, he might want to wrestle, but I kind of want to fight him and see where it goes."

On the possibility of NXT becoming a bigger brand than RAW and SmackDown Live.

"I was thinking about that the other day and I want to get to the main roster, Riddle responded. "But then I was thinking, 'Well, maybe I'm thinking about it wrong' because NXT is so hot, maybe we should stay and try to make it bigger than RAW and SmackDown, and just make it one—like the big guy. Which isn't impossible I don't think."

What's next

Matt Riddle is currently feuding with Kassius Ohno on NXT, where he scored another major victory over Ohno at NXT TakeOver: Phoenix.
