WWE News: Takeover Chicago confirmed for June 16th
What's the story?
WWE.com just announced on Monday afternoon the next NXT Takeover to take place after New Orleans on WrestleMania weekend. It'll be NXT Takeover: Chicago on June 16th.
In case you didn't know...
The first NXT Takeover took place on the WWE Network on May 29, 2014, from the Full Sail Arena in Orlando, Florida. The main event was Adrian Neville defending his NXT Championship against Tyson Kidd. Tyler Breeze also took on Sami Zayn and Charlotte took on Natalya with their fathers at ringside.
The heart of the matter
NXT Takeover: Chicago will stream live on the WWE Network on Saturday, June 16th from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois. This will be the second straight year that Takeover has taken place from Chicago as the first Takeover after WrestleMania weekend.
Last year NXT Takeover: Chicago was held during the same weekend as WWE Backlash in May. The main event involved DIY vs The Authors Of Pain for the NXT Tag Team Championships. The ending was very memorable as it was when Tommaso Ciampa turned on Johnny Gargano as the show went off the air.
What's next?
The next Takeover for NXT will be in New Orleans on the night before WrestleMania, April 7th. Three matches are currently planned for the card including Andrade Cien Almas defending his NXT Championship against Aleister Black, Ember Moon taking on Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women's Championship, and The Undisputed Era will take on the winners of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic for the NXT Tag Team Championships.
Author's take
I'm definitely glad that NXT Takeover is coming back to Chicago. They are one of the best crowds in the WWE and should be hot for wrestlers like Adam Cole and Aleister Black, who I am predicting will faceoff for the NXT Championship; while Drew McIntyre could be feuding with Andrade Cien Almas.
