WWE News: The band behind CM Punk's original theme working on another for WWE
What's the story?
Rock magazine Loudwire is reporting that popular metal band Killswitch Engage is working on an entrance theme for the WWE. This wouldn't be the first time the band has worked with the WWE as their song "This Fire Burns" was CM Punk's first entrance theme.
In case you didn't know...
Randy Orton actually wanted This Fire Burns by Killswitch Engage to be his theme song, but in 2006 the WWE gave it to CM Punk. It wasn't all bad for Orton though as in 2008 he received a new theme song called "Voices" by Rev Theory that he still uses today.
The heart of the matter
Killswitch Engage's bassist Mike D'Antonio is an avid wrestling fan, and in a recent interview, he disclosed that they are working on a theme song for the WWE and another for a different wrestling promotion that was not disclosed.
D'Antonio noted that one song is already finished and they will record the other song within the next couple of weeks. At the time of this writing, it is not yet known for whom the song will be.
He also noted that the one for the WWE is a cover song, and they sent instructions to the band to "cover this as best as possible or as close as possible," but D'Antonio mentioned they had trouble figuring it out as it wasn't a good song. He would further explain below:
The group "had a tough time" with the song and Mike D. admitted there was some backlash from other members who didn't want to take on the cover. "And I get it. I understand. If it’s a really crappy song, if we've got to put our name on it, we don’t want our fans thinking we wrote something terrible," he added. "So we got this song to where we’re comfortable and we’re going to start recording it soon.”
It is not known if this is a song that was originally done by the WWE for a current WWE Superstar or a cover song from a different band that the WWE is not yet using.
What's next?
Killswitch Engage is currently on a break from touring, but they will resume early next year starting January 25th in Montreal, Canada. They are also in the process of demoing tracks for their upcoming 8th studio album; which will release sometime in 2018.
Author's take
I think it is great that the WWE is going back to established bands for WWE Superstar's theme music. It was very common about 10 years ago with bands such as Finger Eleven, Disturbed, and Limp Bizkit having entrance songs in the WWE.
I'm very interested to find out which WWE Superstar they are going to use Killswitch Engage's song for.
