WWE News: The Big Show credits John Cena in inspiring him to lose weight
What’s The Story?
According to a report by Maxim magazine, WWE superstar, former world champion, and future WWE Hall Of Famer, The Big Show has lost 90 pounds this year, all thanks to John Cena. During an interview on the Conan show, Big Show revealed how a comment from John Cena inspired him to lose the weight and that he now has abs!
In case you didn’t know
The WWE has always billed Big Show as the “World’s Largest Athlete” who weighed in at 500 pounds. In reality, Show was 537 pounds for most of his WWE run. During his interview with Conan, he stated that throughout the years his weight fluctuated from 537 pounds down to 463 pounds.
Then in 2016, after a conversation with Cena where the leader of the Cenation stated “who wants to see a giant with abs”, Show changed his life including eating habits and workout routines. He now weighs in at 373 pounds.
The heart of the matter
The Big Show credits his weight loss to a combination of a healthier diet, a smarter workout routine, and of course, John Cena. The idea to lose weight wasn’t strictly a cosmetic decision, but a lifestyle choice as well. “I wasn’t feeling good at all. I was complaining and complaining. I had been a tremendous athlete, but it was a difficult time,” he recently told ESPN.com.
High calorie, unhealthy food were all pushed to the sideline and Big Show began to undergo intense high energy workouts where he could keep his metabolism moving at a high pace.
What’s next?
This new look for The Big Show will undoubtedly help him compete in the WWE. WrestleMania 33 in Orlando is just a little over a week away where Show is competing in the annual Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
Rumours swirled for months that Big Show was set to face off against Shaq at the show of shows, but those plans have seemingly fallen through. Big Show has been active on social media detailing his new look and calling out the NBA legend.
Author's Take
A Big Show that is in good shape is a Big Show that can hang with the young talent that is hoarded up in the WWE locker room. This also shows just how impactful John Cena is to other talents on the roster.
There have been too many cases in the past where WWE’s big men have seen their health decline in the later years of their career. With Show seemingly recognising this trend, his quality of life will be better for a longer period of time.
Finally, Big Show appears to be one of the most well-respected veterans in the locker room. He commands respect and can teach newcomers what it means to be a WWE superstar. The longer he can stay healthy, the longer he can stay on the road and contribute to the WWE product.
