WWE News: The Hardy family reacts to GFW's ongoing problems
What’s the story?
The Hardy family has taken to social media to comment about GFW’s ongoing problems as well as the widespread rumours of GFW parent company Anthem Sports & Entertainment bowing out of the professional wrestling business.
Reby Hardy previously Re-tweeted posts about Anthem ‘hemorrhaging funds’ to sell GFW and leave the pro-wrestling business altogether.
Additionally, Hardy family patriarch Matt Hardy issued a rather subtle response to GFW’s fiasco, stating:
In case you didn’t know…
The Hardy family has been embroiled in a legal battle with TNA/GFW management Anthem over the usage rights of their ‘Broken Hardy’ characters.
The Hardys parted ways with GFW a few months back and returned to the WWE in April of this year. However, they haven’t showcased their Broken personas in the WWE as of yet, owing to their ongoing legal battle over the gimmick with GFW.
The heart of the matter
As previously reported, GFW's parent company, Anthem Sports & Entertainment helmed by Ed Nordholm, has been looking to cash out of the wrestling industry, owing to low revenues from the company.
On that note, Reby Hardy has been considerably vocal about her displeasure with the way GFW have disallowed them from using the Broken gimmick outside the company.
As soon as the Hardy family matriarch got wind of GFW’s teetering state, she reacted in typical fashion, stating, “Man, I DONE owned that owl”
Furthermore, her husband Matt, chimed in with his two cents on the same, reiterating that the Hardys had outlasted GFW—“The Hardys will outlast all.”
What’s next?
GFW could see a change of ownership over the course of the next few weeks. It is important to note that GFW just signed a deal with Pop TV to air in 2018. Although this deal doesn't really yield any substantial revenue for the promotion, it at least gives them some sort of presence in the US market.
Author’s take
In my opinion, the Hardys have every right in the world to criticize GFW and Anthem. Not only did the family shell out money from their own pockets to make the Broken gimmick as wonderful and appealing as it is, but they also worked tirelessly to bring said gimmick to life for the fans.
