WWE News: The Miz discusses the backstage reaction to his epic Talking Smack promo of 2016
What's the story?
The Miz recently had an interview with Complex. He discussed the birth of his daughter Monroe Sky and who Miz's favorite wrestler was growing up, but he also discussed the epic promo The Miz cut on Daniel Bryan in a 2016 edition of Talking Smack.
In case you didn't know...
The last time Daniel Bryan and The Miz faced each other in the ring was an edition of SmackDown in mid-February of 2015. It only lasted three minutes and kicked off the show. Their next match may headline a pay per view.
The heart of the matter
When they discussed the famous segment on Talking Smack where Miz got into a heated conversation with Daniel Bryan as Renee Young could only watch in amazement, Miz took exception to Daniel stating that Miz wrestles like a coward, and that set Miz off as you can see below:
Complex asked The Miz what the reaction was backstage after that heated promo. Take a look at Miz's description of what happened below:
"People backstage were packing their bags and leaving, and suddenly, everyone just stopped. I only remember parts of that moment afterwards, because I was so angry. But I was just pacing. I didn't know what to do with myself."
After this moment in August 2016, Miz started copying Daniel Bryan's moves out of gest. At the time, we knew Bryan was retired due to his mounting concussions, so we didn't expect a payoff for this feud.
Fast forward to just before WrestleMania when Bryan announced that the WWE medical staff has cleared him to return to in-ring competition and specifically asked Raw General Manager Kurt Angle to send Miz to SmackDown as part of this week's Superstar Shakeup; which he obliged.
Now everyone (including myself) is excited at where this feud can go from here.
What's next?
The Miz cut a promo on SmackDown Live this week stating that he'll make his triumphant in-person return to the blue brand next week in Louisville, Kentucky. It'll be interesting to see if Miz tries to avoid Bryan or if they have a face-to-face confrontation.
Author's take
The best promos are always the ones that are not planned, and clearly, this wasn't planned. You never truly know in professional wrestling, but this is the first time I've seen The Miz state how mad he truly was in that situation.
The Miz moving over to SmackDown Live definitely ranks up there with my favorite moves of the entire Superstar Shakeup. It's going to be fun to see how this feud plays out. Hopefully, they don't rush it and let it play out over the course of a few months.
