WWE News: The Miz upset with WWE Championship not headlining shows
What's the story?
The Miz is never a superstar to hold back his thoughts and emotions. He recently caught up with Sports Illustrated and expressed his displeasure that the WWE Championship wasn't in the main event of every single pay-per-view.
His comment comes shortly after Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe were booked in the main event of Backlash in a non-title match, despite the fact that there was a WWE Championship match in the card. Thanks to Cageside Seats for the update.
In case you didn't know...
Universal Champion Brock Lesnar only works a part-time schedule and wasn't scheduled to be at Backlash. AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura did wrestle for the WWE Championship but their match was relegated to the middle of the show, followed by two non-title matches.
The Miz has his eyes on the Money in the Bank contract right now. He wants to elevate the WWE Championship to the very highest level.
The heart of the matter
The Miz expressed his displeasure at how the WWE Championship is currently treated:
My goal is to make the WWE championship as relevant and prestigious as it should be. Do I think AJ Styles is doing a terrific job as WWE champion? Absolutely. But that WWE championship should be in the main event of every single WWE pay per view. It upsets me when I see that it is not.
He went on to explain his intentions over the months that follow:
My goal is to not only win the Money in the Bank contract, cash it in and become WWE champion. I want to put that title back where it belongs: the main event.
What's next?
The Miz qualified for the Money in the Bank ladder match recently. Will he be the man to win the briefcase and, subsequently, cash it in? Only time will tell for sure.
Author's take
I'm okay with The Miz as WWE Champion. He's proved time and again just how good a performer he truly is.
Even though the audience hates him from the core, they have the utmost respect for the man too!
