WWE News: The New Day officially surpass Demolition to become the longest reigning Tag Team Champions in WWE History
As of Thursday, 15th December, The New Day have officially surpassed Demolition’s 478-day title reign to become the longest reigning Tag Team Champions in WWE history. While The New Day secured it by overcoming all the odds that faced them on Monday Night Raw, they had not beaten nor equalled the record by then.
However, The New Day will walk into Roadblock as history makers. It is also the longest championship reign in WWE since CM Punk’s 434-day reign as WWE Champion between November 2011 and January 2013.
The New Day won the Tag Team Championships in a Fatal-Four-Way Tag match at Summerslam 2015. The reigning Champions at the time were The Prime Time Players, who had won it from The New Day at Money In The Bank 2015.
It was The New Day at the time who was riding a larger wave of momentum, and they were credited last year for having revitalised the Tag Team division in WWE.
Despite having the best year among all the Tag Teams, it was The Usos who were voted as The Tag Team of the year 2015 by the WWE Universe. This came as a surprise to many, as The Usos had been out of action for the majority of the year, competing for just six months.
Perhaps the biggest obstacle of their entire title reign came in the most recent episode of Raw, where they had two title defences in two triple threat matches. The first match was against Cesaro & Sheamus and Gallows & Anderson (The Club):
The second defence came in the main event against Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho and Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins:
