WWE News: The New Day to defend Tag Team title vs The Club at SummerSlam
WWE have announced that The new Day will be defending their Tag Team title against Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows at SummerSlam. The Club have been targeting the tag team title for quite some time now and have been attacking The New Day at every opportunity they got.
Big E suffered a contusion after he was pulled groin-first into the turnbuckle by Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson following their match on August 1st edition of RAW. Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston are looking to take on The Club with revenge on their mind.
Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows said that they would only be interested in facing The New Day if they put their titles on the line. With that being the only way of getting their hands on The Club, The New Day have agreed to face them at SummerSlam.
The New Day will be without Big E following his injury and this will be the first time that they will be putting their titles on the line without having all the three members of the stable at ringside. The last time one of the members of the stable was not at ringside was back Extreme Rules in 2015 when they won the title for the first time.
The New Day lost the titles to The Prime Time player – Darren Young and Titus O'Neil – at the 2015 Money in the Bank but then won it back last year at SummerSlam in a fatal four-way tag match which also had Los Matadores and The Lucha Dragons along with the then tag team champs, Prime Time Players.
The New Day broke Paul London and Brian Kendrick's 331-day record for the longest reign as champions last month. The first attack by The Club on The New Day came when the stable were celebrating their record-extending run on RAW. Anderson and Gallows blindsided the trio when they were in the ring celebrating their record-breaking reign with a fan.
Anderson and Gallows were first put together by NJPW in 2013. They started working together as a tag team within the Bullet Club stable and have been together ever since. Over the next three years, the two won the IWGP Tag Team Championship three times. They also ended up winning the World Tag League in 2013.
The Club are yet to win a tag title in WWE and with Big E injured this might just be their best chance to win the title from the hands of The New Day.
