What's the story?

A fan recently took to Twitter to ask former WWE Superstar and Hollywood actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson about the open-calf boots that he wore, in his match at WrestleMania 19.

In case you didn’t know…

It is not clear whether the fan who tweeted The Rock noticed it only during his match with Stone Cold, but The Rock has always worn open-calf boots - during his initial run with the company in the late 90's and early 2000s, and also during his feud with John Cena more recently in 2011-12.

The Rock has now taken to twitter to answer why he chose to wear that particular design.

The heart of the matter

The Rock revealed that the idea for open calf boots came from a wrestler during the 80's named George Wells. Apparently, Wells gave a pair of such boots to The Rock's father, "Soulman" Rocky Johnson.

George Wells was a professional wrestler who wrestled for WWE during 1985-86, feuding with the likes of Jake "The Snake" Roberts and Sgt. Slaughter. The highlight of his WWE career was his match at WrestleMania 2 against Jake Roberts.

The Hollywood star went on to reveal that his father never wore the boots, and when he found them in storage one day, he thought it was good idea to try them out! He also joked that he had big calves to fill out the boots, so it worked well on him!

What's next?

As of this writing, The Rock is not scheduled to make an appearence at WrestleMania 34, set to take place next Sunday in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome at New Orleans. A surprise appearance can never ruled out though!

Author's take

This is an interesting little tidbit revealed by The Rock. Last time when WrestleMania was at the Superdome, The Rock, Stone Cold and Hulk Hogan were involved in a memorable opening segment of the show.

Here's hoping he will make a surprise appearance next Sunday too!
