WWE News: The Rock reveals the secret behind his melodious voice in 'Moana'

The Rock has crooned a song named ‘You’re Welcome’ in the film

WWE superstar The Rock’s career graph in Hollywood has been going only one way over the years – upwards. His latest film, Moana, which hit theatres a few days back, has received worldwide critical acclaim and promises to be another blockbuster for the wrestler-turned-actor.

The Walt Disney animation film sees the actor lending his voice to one of the central characters in the film named ‘Maui’. The character is that of a shape-shifting demigod who helps a girl named Moana in retrieving the heart of an island goddess and returning it to her.

Apart from being an important part of Moana’s cast, The Rock can also be heard singing in the film. A song titled ‘You’re Welcome’, which centres around an encounter between Maui and Moana, has been sung entirely by ‘The Great One’.

He recently appeared alongside co-star Auli’i Cravalho, who has voiced the character of Moana, in an interview with USA Today regarding their film. During the interview, The Rock revealed the secret behind his impressive singing skills in the film.

While he attributed part of it to him going through the vocal ranges, the former WWE champion disclosed that a sip of tequila before starting to record the song helped him a lot too. The Rock claimed that opera singers use this technique as well.

He also spoke about the rigorous effort that he took in order to get his only song in the film come out right. According to the Superstar, he practised the song whenever possible, irrespective of whether he was on the set, in the gym, or anywhere else, for that matter.

Moana is being promoted heavily by the WWE as a promotional video for the film featuring The Rock was aired during the Survivor Series. On the subsequent episode of Raw, another video focusing on the Rock ‘n’ Sock Connection was shown in an effort to promote the film. Here is a look at the video:
