WWE News: Title match set for NXT's USA Network debut
The Wednesday Night War Begins
In a month, All Elite Wrestling and WWE will ignite the Wednesday Night Wars, with AEW going head-to-head with NXT. The third brand, featuring incredible indie darlings like Adam Cole, Matt Riddle, and Velveteen Dream, is the perfect show to go up against a company so focused on the part of the fanbase so engrossed with in-ring performances.
AEW actually won't begin airing live weekly programming until October 2nd. However, the WWE will be moving NXT to the USA Network in only a few weeks, giving them some time to pick up a new fan base that may not be aware of the show as it sits now on the WWE Network. And if they're looking to bring in new viewers on the first show, it's important to give them a high-quality match.
The Dream begins on September 18th
Velveteen Dream's NXT North American Title reign has been incredible, to say the least. Starting off by defeating Johnny Gargano, the Vainglorious One has picked up strong wins against the likes of Tyler Breeze, Pete Dunne, and even the King of Bros, Matt Riddle. At the brand's most recent TakeOver event, NXT TakeOver: Toronto, the Vainglorious One defeated both Dunne and Roderick Strong in a Triple Threat, pinning the Bruiserweight.
However, Strong believes that he was cheated out of the one-on-one championship match that he rightfully earned, and feels that a singles bout against Dream would end with the Undisputed Era capturing the final piece of the puzzle, picking up every men's title on the brand.
On the latest edition of NXT, Strong took a shot at Dream, burning the champ's iconic couch. With the feud at its peak, NXT has made the title match between the two official. In fact, Velveteen Dream will defend his North American Title against the Messiah of the Backbreaker on September 18th on the first ever live edition of NXT on the USA Network.
