WWE News: Tommaso Ciampa comments on Johnny Gargano's emotional NXT Championship win
What's the story?
At tonight's NXT TakeOver: New York, Johnny Gargano finally defied all the odds and won the NXT Championship in a hard-hitting battle against Adam Cole.
Following the culmination of the 2 out of 3 falls match between Gargano and Cole, the new NXT Champion was embraced by his arch-rival and former DIY tag team partner, Tommaso Ciampa. The former NXT Champion has now taken to social media and expressed his feelings about Gargano's win in an emotional post.
In case you didn't know...
Prior to tonight's NXT TakeOver: New York show, former NXT Champion, Tommaso Ciampa, unfortunately, had to relinquish his NXT Championship due to an untimely neck injury which forced him to undergo surgery.
On the 20th March episode of NXT, Ciampa officially vacated his NXT Title, ending his reign at 237 days and on 1st April, 'The Blackheart' gave an update on his return stating that if he is able to return to the ring, doctors say he will be on "borrowed time".
With Ciampa officially sidelined due to injury, NXT decided to crown a brand new champion, as both Adam Cole and Johnny Gargano were scheduled to compete in tonight's TakeOver: New York main event for the vacant NXT Championship.
The heart of the matter
Tonight at the Barclays Center in New York City, Johnny Gargano defied all the odds that were stacked against him and defeated former NXT North American Champion Adam Cole in an absolutely astonishing match. With this historic win, not only did Gargano become the first NXT Triple Crown Champion, but prior to TakeOver: New York going off air, Johnny Wrestling was greeted by his former DIY partner Tommaso Ciampa on screen.
As both Ciampa and Gargano embraced with each other, alongside Gargano's wife Candice LeRae, the former NXT Champion has taken to Twitter and sent an emotional message to the new NXT Champion.
Ciampa quite possibly billed Gargano as the 'Best Wrestler Alive', while labeling himself as the 'Greatest Sports Entertainer Of All Time'. 'Blackheart' ended his tweet by stating that there is only one real NXT Champion.
What's next?
Tomasso Ciampa's tweet might very well indicate the fact that he hasn't turned into the 'good guy' we were hoping to be, as the former champion claimed that there is only one real NXT Champion.
Nevertheless, as of right now Ciampa is focused on his rehabilitation, while Gargano celebrates his big title win.
