WWE News: Tommaso Ciampa reacts on relinquishing the NXT Championship
What's the story?
Former NXT Champion, Tommaso Ciampa took to Twitter to express his grief on being forced to relinquish the NXT title.
Ciampa was set to defend his title at NXT Takeover in April against longtime rival Johnny Gargano, but a neck injury took him out of action for at least six months.
In case you didn't know...
During his rivalry with Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa became one of the greatest heels in the history of NXT. The team split up when Cimpa betrayed Gargano at NXT Takeover: Chicago in 2017.
The duo later ended up together again, making their debut on Monday Night Raw on the February 18th, 2019 edition of the show.
On March 6th, Dave Meltzer reported that Ciampa had suffered a neck injury that would take him out for at least six months, thus forcing the authorities to scrap the long-anticipated match at NXT Takeover.
The heart of the matter
On the latest episode of NXT, Triple H announced a Fatal Five-Way match to determine Gargano's opponent at Takeover, pitting Aleister Black, Ricochet, Matt Riddle, Adam Cole, and Velveteen Dream.
A dejected Ciampa posted a tweet, stating that "A small piece of him died tonight".
What's next?
Adam Cole emerged victorious at the end of the Fatal Five-Way match. Cole will go on to face Gargano at NXT Takeover in April to determine the new NXT Champion.
As for Tommaso Ciampa, the Blackheart will be back in action once his neck fully heals. Until then, the love of his life, as he likes to call it, will grace the shoulder of either Gargano or Adam Cole, come Takeover.
