WWE News: Tommaso Ciampa returns at NXT Takeover: Philadelphia
Ciampa is back
What’s the Story?
The Road to NXT Takeover: New Orleans took a huge step in setting up matches for the show as former NXT Tag Team Champion Tommaso Ciampa returned to WWE to attack Johnny Gargano.
In Case You Didn’t Know
Gargano and Ciampa formed the team DIY in 2015, but the duo would end their tag team in 2017 when Ciampa turned on Gargano and put their feud in motion. The plans were for the match to take place at Takeover Brooklyn III, but Ciampa’s knee injury would force WWE to delay their plans.
The Heart of the Matter
Gargano and Andrade Ciem Almas had an epic match for the NXT Championship that almost saw Johnny Wrestling walk away with the coveted title. Sadly, Almas’ continued attacks on Gargano’s head worked in his favor and allowed the man formerly known as La Sombra to retain the championship.
With his wife at his side, Gargano walked up the ramp after the match gripping his head in pain with a look of utter disappointment, but the somber times for Johnny Wrestling would only worsen when Ciampa struck him in the back with a crutch to end the show.
No official announcements have been made, but all signs point to a singles match between Gargano and Ciampa for NXT Takeover: New Orleans.
The tension between Gargano and Ciampa is at an all-time high, but the first signs of dissensions occurred during the first round of the Cruiserweight Classic when Gargano defeated Ciampa to advance.
Despite clear signs of resentment shown in Ciampa’s face after the match, Gargano and Ciampa would grow stronger as a team and go on to defeat The Revival for the NXT Tag Team Championships at NXT Takeover: Toronto.
What’s Next?
NXT Takeover: New Orleans will take place on April 7, 2018 and will set the tone for what fans should expect for WrestleMania weekend.
